If you thought the Walgreens on the corner of State and Randolph was impressive, we've got news for you: as of Wednesday, it'll officially be second-best.  The newest Walgreens is set to open in Wicker Park on Wednesday, and--like the State and Randolph location--it's a flagship store, which means the size and selection will be much larger than anything you'd see at your average Walgreens. The new drugstore--at the corner of North and Damen, in the space that used to hold The Noel State Bank--is something of a candy store for adults.

When filmmaker Craig Erpelding and his then-girlfriend enlisted the services of the Apartment People in the summer of 2008 to find an apartment after moving to Chicago from L.A., he found himself unable to answer a very basic question: "What neighborhood do you want to look at?"   A Kansas native, his previous Chicago experience was limited to a few visits to Wrigleyville and the Loop. "I had no idea about Chicago outside of those two things," Erpelding said over coffee and bagels at Atomix Coffee Shop on Chicago Avenue.

Nearly every weekend from now until September, at least one strip of Chicago's streets will be clogged as the Windy City's dozens of festivals take over the thoroughfares for the summer. Hot spots like Wicker Park will surrender their streets many more times, and for most of the city's residents, that's a great thing. McKinley Park resident Justin Kerr, however, isn't sold on the idea. It's not the festivals themselves that get the 42-year-old web developer's blood boiling. It's their so called suggested donations, which Kerr asserts are increasingly being treated as more of a mandatory entrance fee. "They channel you through these long lines, and everything is presented as if it's an admittance fee and that you have to pay. They are not being presented as suggested donations, and they are making people feel pressured or obliged to pay," Kerr said.

Being blessed with a city full of nightlife destinations comes with its price: Friday and Saturday nights can mean waiting around for a table or bar stool, if you get in at all. But with a few minor adjustments and a little planning, no spot is untouchable. Thanks to lunchtime hours, many hot venues - including new seafood and absinthe bar The Savoy in Wicker Park - are open for mid-day imbibing. And if weekend crowds are crushing, consider taking up bar space on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
