After the shocking developments in last week's episode of "Vikings," I thought it might be fun to highlight a lighter for fans this week. May I present this week's Shirtless TV Men of the Week: Alexander Ludwig and Clive Standen? In "Boneless," airing at 9 p.m. April 17 on History, Bjorn (Ludwig) gets some fight training from his uncle Rollo (Standen), and it's something to behold. Ludwig told me earlier this season that he loved shooting the scene, despite the conditions in Ireland.

"Vikings" wraps its season Thursday with another big showdown between Ragnar Lothbrok and King Horik. Season 2 has had many twists and turns, so why should the finale be any different? Expect to see at least one more betrayal before the hour ends. Horik (Donal Logue) has been plotting against Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), turning the Earl's friends against him. Ragnar, however, has been watching and listening. He may not say much, but he's always noticing things and weighing his options, creator Michael Hirst told me earlier in the season.

Alexander Ludwig knew he'd have to bring the muscle playing a young warrior in History's "Vikings," but he didn't expect to use them when the cameras stopped rolling. Ludwig joined the cast in Season 2 as Bjorn Ironside, the now teenage son of Ragnar Lothbrok, the show's main character played by Travis Fimmel. In the history-based series airing at 9 p.m. Thursdays, Ragnar is a visionary Viking leader who leads his people to faraway lands, but grows to view his sons as rivals. That father-son rivalry, Ludwig said, turned playful off camera between the actors.

The penultimate episode of "Vikings" Season 2 airs Thursday, and it's packed with fighting, infighting and treachery. In "The Choice," debuting at 9 p.m. April 24 on History, the dispute between Ragnar Lothbrok and King Horik grows when they disagree on whether to negotiate with or fight against King Ecbert's army. Ragnar once again sits back and let's events unfold, observing just how much King Horik can screw things up. Ragnar also shows his pride for his son in the episode, dubbing him Bjorn Ironside for his prowess in battle.

History continues its onslaught of promotional material for its first scripted drama, "Vikings," which is set to premiere at 9 p.m. CT March 3. On Monday the network released the series' key art, which shows the hero of the story, Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a "curious, compelling man who is always looking to break through barriers and discover new worlds to conquer. " Here's a breakdown of the symbolism in the key art from History: Covering Ragnar's face is the bold "Vikings" logo that captures the spirit of the Viking culture.

Well, this is going to take some getting used to. Jared Allen, longtime Minnesota Viking, is now ours. Take that, Julius Peppers. We basically traded a banged up rusty Buick for a shinier, less rusty Cadillac. Those are terrible analogies, given that modern day cars don't seem to rust, but I'm happy with the exchange. The question remains: How do I start liking Jared. Oh heck, you got me! I love him already! (Reminds me of the Dennis Rodman trade. Minute One: Wait! I hate that guy!

The Bears lost last week to a mediocre St. Louis team. Their starting quarterback is injured. And they haven't won a Super Bowl in nearly 30 years. But before you complain, remember this: It could be worse. You could be a Vikings fan. With the Bears traveling to Minnesota this weekend, I asked my friend Rob Watson to break down his worst moments as a Vikings fan.   1. 1998 NFC championship overtime loss to Atlanta, 30-27 IT CAN'T GET WORSE, RIGHT? After becoming the first kicker in NFL history to complete a perfect season, Gary Anderson...

There's something about the Vikings that, I don't know, just makes me want to puke. There's no honor in losing to them and no greatness in defeating them. Playing them is like playing basketball against the annoying, hyperactive kid in your neighborhood. Win, and you're annoyed that you even spent time with him. Lose, and you have to listen to his chatter until you've made it home. That's probably why I had little respect for Sunday's game. Before kickoff, I was trading emails with a friend when the topic of the Bears came up. "The Bears need this...

Get ready, Bears fans: Adrian Peterson is coming to town. The Monsters of the Midway have had a roller-coaster ride defending the running back - and reigning NFL MVP - called "All Day. " Here's a look at the good, the bad and the ugly. THE GOOD Nov. 14, 2010: Bears 27, Vikings 13 Peterson: 75 total yards Peterson missed the second Bears game in both 2010 and 2011, but the way he played in the first ones, he might have been better off. The Bears closed this game with a 20-3 run while holding Peterson to 51...

History Channel's hit drama "Vikings" began with Ragnar Lothbrok and his brother, Rollo, defeating dozens of warriors in a bloody battle. But as the series ends its freshman season Sunday, the brothers probably won't be standing together. "You don't know whose side Rollo is on," Travis Fimmel, who plays Ragnar, told me earlier this season, adding that the final episodes of the season were his favorites. "There's a brotherly rivalry, you know what I mean? And great conflicts. " As Ragnar conquered the sea, raided the English...

The text arrived about 30 minutes after my column went live on redeyechicago.com . It was my buddy G, a Vikings fan. He was not happy. "I want you to know I take personal offense to your column," he wrote. "You went too far. " We'd been smack talking all day both privately and on Twitter, and perhaps I was still channeling that mindset when I wrote my postgame column about my dislike of the Vikings. I'd imagine my disrespect of the Vikings wasn't what bothered him, though, but rather my disrespect of Vikings fans: "[The Vikings]

There is one thing on this Earth that Bears fans and Packers fans agree on, and that is their dislike for the Minnesota Vikings. They tend to be feckless beasts, and their fans are no better. They are a dome team masquerading as cold-weather warriors. They are rarely terrible and sometimes excellent, yet their most famous moments involve successful teams decaying at the seams right when victory seemed most assured. (See: 1999 and 2001 NFC championship games) I mention this because while there were a lot of downsides to Sunday's 28-10 Bears win, the upside was...

Before History Channel's "Vikings" premiered in early March, leading man Travis Fimmel may have been best known for his modeling days--and Calvin Klein underwear ads. Many Chicagoans probably remember the blue-eyed Aussie for starring with Patrick Swayze in A&E's Chicago-set and filmed "The Beast" in 2009. Before that, he appeared in the short-lived WB series "Tarzan" in 2003, and has continued to star in independent movies. But with the ratings success of "Vikings"--History announced Friday it was renewing the show for a 10-episode Season 2--Fimmel has turned his ax-wielding hero...

Katheryn Winnick holds a third-degree black belt in taekwondo and a second-degree black belt in karate, so playing a sword-wielding shield maiden in History's "Vikings" was a cinch. Well ... sorta. "A shield maiden wouldn't necessarily do a spinning back kick or flip. The style of fighting would be very different," the Canadian actress said during a recent phone interview, not sounding at all traumatized by having to fight with a heavy wooden shield. "It was so much fun getting to dive into a different art form of attack.
