** (out of four) Perhaps on some level people fixate on the Kristen Stewart/Robert Pattinson offscreen drama because nothing in “The Twilight Saga” burns as strongly or clearly as infidelity. Yes, there's the totally monumental love between vampire Edward (Pattinson) and former human, new vampire Bella (Stewart). Yet the films based on Stephenie Meyer's books almost always have failed to fill in details about anything but the complicated yearning between two beings challenged by mythical urges.

*1/2 (out of four) It's a miracle! Not one of those happy miracles, though. More like, “Sorry, Bella, there's now a vampire growing inside you.” That's because 18-year-old Bella (Kristen Stewart) and her new, much-older-than-that vampire husband Edward (Robert Pattinson) didn't think she could get pregnant. For its 2013 movie awards, MTV has added two new categories to help measure true excellence in filmmaking: Best Shirtless Performance and Best Musical Moment. What do you expect from an awards ceremony that honors Best Kiss, Best WTF Moment and Best Scared-As-S**t Performance? And more to the point, only Channing Tatum from "Magic Mike" was nominated for Best Shirtless Performance?! Although I have no complaint about most of the other nominees save Ted, what about Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Matthew McConaughey, Adam Rodriguez and Alex...

** (out of four) You could fault arrogant, deceitful, unethical Julian Assange for a lot, but you can't blame him for resenting “The Fifth Estate.” Based on a book co-written by Assange's former colleague Daniel Domscheit-Berg, this scattered thriller presents the WikiLeaks founder (played by Benedict Cumberbatch of “Star Trek Into Darkness” and this week's “12 Years a Slave”) as a manipulative villain. Worse, it puts maximum blame on Assange's shoulders for questionable journalism while minimizing the horrific secrets he helped...

(originally published March 15, 2010) No, Kristen Stewart did not actually urinate on a guitar while playing Joan Jett in “The Runaways.” It just looks like it in the movie. She did, however, sing and play guitar, and she does a pretty decent job of portraying the rock icon in one of the first prominent all-girl rock bands. Dakota Fanning fares even better as Cherie Currie, the highly sexual and very underage lead singer of the Runaways, a band that existed only in the latter half of the '70s but endures in rock history books, both for the...
