A slimy, reddish orange creature emerges from the depth of the dark water in a cramped room behind the exhibits at Shedd Aquarium and latches onto a woman's arm with one of its tentacles. For most people, this scene is the stuff of nightmares. Losing at the Oscars kind of sucks, but at least the snubbed get a robotic hair transplant as a consolation prize.  Yep, that's just one bizzare item in the gift bag that will be presented to losers of the best actor/actress, best supporting actor/actress and best director categories, curated by Los Angeles-based marketing firm Distinctive Assets.  Previously, the loser bags have been given to Ron Howard, Meryl Streep and Hugh Jackman, and...

Director Michael Bassett loves to blow stuff up. That's why Cinemax's "Strike Back" was the perfect choice for his first TV directing gig. "I blow up an ambulance and it's one of the biggest indoor explosions I've ever seen," Bassett told me at San Diego Comic Con. "When the shockwave hits you - you're sitting at your monitors 50 yards or 100 yards away - and then suddenly you just feel this wallop of air. Your crew is like, '[gasping sound].'...
