History channel has a hit on its hands. More than 13.9 million viewers tuned into the first night of the network's first scripted miniseries, "Hatfields & McCoys. " And it premiered on the Memorial Day holiday no less. According to the network, the premiere installment of the three-parter made history, becoming the No. 1 non-sports telecast in ad supported cable TV history. More than 13.9 million total viewers watched, with 5.8 million adults ages 25-54 and 4.8 million adults ages 18-49.

"Game of Thrones" won't be won any time soon. HBO announced Tuesday it has renewed the fantasy hit for a fifth and sixth season. With Sunday's Season 4 premiere scoring HBO's biggest ratings since 2007's finale of "The Sopranos," it only makes sense the cable network would renew the show. Season 4 opened at 8 p.m. Sunday, averaging 6.6 million total viewers, according to Nielsen. That "Sopranos" finale drew 11.9 million viewers. "'Game of Thrones' is a phenomenon like no other," said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming.

Lifetime's "Drew Peterson: Untouchable" movie generated record viewership, the network said Monday, averaging about 5.8 million total viewers when it aired Jan. 21. I wonder how many of them made watching it a drinking game. It'd be easy to do. Each time Rob Lowe, playing Peterson, squints, you take a gulp. Each time his accent turns to Wiconsin instead of Chicago, you take a sip (you'd be drunk too fast if you were gulping). Each time the movie "convicts" him, you pick a friend to do a shot.

NBC has renewed the Chicago-set and filmed "Chicago Fire" along with four other dramas, the network announced Friday. "Chicago Fire" has done OK in the ratings, but more importantly it has boosted NBC's 9 p.m. Wednesday ratings by 24 percent year-over-year. There's also talk of a spinoff series. NBC also renewed "Revolution," "Parenthood," "Grimm" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. " All the shows have been given 22-episode seasons. Have you ever sat down to watch an episode from a full season DVD set of a TV series, and found yourself still on the couch hours later watching just one more episode? That was Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein's inspiration for the latest episode of "Portlandia," titled appropriately "On Moore Episode. " It airs at 9 p.m. Jan. 13 on IFC, but you can see it at the network's web site already. In the episode, Doug (Armisen) and Claire (Brownstein) get pulled into a days-long "Battlestar Galactica" marathon.
