Chicago on Wednesday reached 100 homicides for the year--the fastest the city has hit this mark in at least seven years, RedEye and police data show. Seventeen homicides have been recorded in the last week--including four each on Saturday and Sunday, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police information found. Chicago has not reached 100 homicides in March since 2004, when the city logged 106 homicides before April 1, according to police data. The city reached 100 homicides last year on April 26, RedEye data shows.

Englewood has logged three homicides this week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A man was fatally shot Wednesday in the 7500 block of South Union Avenue, police said. A 27-year-old man was shot to death Monday in the 5700 block of South Princeton Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 25-year-old man was fatally shot in the 6400 block of South Morgan Street, according to officials. Englewood has logged 18 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 21 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.

Portage Park and South Lawndale each have recorded two homicides so far this year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Portage Park, a 21-year-old man was shot to death Friday in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue, police said. Portage Park logged four homicides last year, according to RedEye data. In South Lawndale, a 31-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday in the 4100 block of West 30th Street, officials said. South Lawndale recorded 13 homicides last year, RedEye determined.

The Northwest Side saw three homicides in the last week, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data. On Monday, a 24-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the 6500 block of West Addison Street in Dunning, police said. On Friday, a 36-year-old man was fatally shot in the 2800 block of North Spaulding Avenue in Avondale, according to officials. That same day, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the 2900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue in Belmont Cragin, police said.

Chicago recorded three homicides by stabbing in four days this week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A woman was found stabbed to death Wednesday in the 1300 block of West Thorndale Avenue in Edgewater, according to officials. A day earlier, a 24-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the 4200 block of North Damen Avenue in North Center, police said. On Sunday, a 19-year-old man was killed in the 7600 block of South Carpenter Street in Auburn Gresham, according to officials.
