The guy who frequents Ukrainian Village coffee shop Atomix is much more than a guy named Phil. He's actually Phillip-Michael Scales, a Ukrainian Village resident and frontman of Briar Rabbit , a local Chicago act that recently dropped a new album, "The Great Routine," and is currently on tour throughout the Midwest.  Briar Rabbit's tour has made stops in college towns including Des Moines, Ames, Madison, Grand Rapids and Iowa City....

*The submission period has ended. Thanks for entering! Ever wanted to spruce up those red newsstands of ours that you've seen peppered throughout the city for the past 10 years? To celebrate our 10th birthday, we're giving 10 artists and groups 30 days and their very own RedEye newsstand to decorate, design and display, not to mention a cash prize for the winners. (Editor's note: Don't worry, we are not getting rid of the original RedEye newsstands. These are the only 10 boxes that will feature new designs.)

Adele lovers breathed a sigh of relief Tuesday when the Guardian announced she was expected to make a full recovery from vocal cord surgery (made slightly more awesome by the use of lasers). It's expected that she'll take one to two months to fully recover, which is like a century for someone who's makes your shower singing sound like Roz from "Monsters Inc. " Here's how we think she might pass the time. damoran@tribune.com  |  @redeyedana   45 percent -- Hopefully NOT texting with her ex, about whom "21" is written.

If Sunday night's premiere of "Boardwalk Empire's" third season left you hovering over the edge of your seat, we have news for you: Chicagoans won't have to wait much longer for this season's next episode. HBO's hit, which gives us an eyeful of Prohibition-era Atlantic City, will hold a premiere of the third season's second episode on Tuesday (the episode isn't set to air until Sunday) in Chicago. With its speakeasy theme, Tommy Gun's Garage (at 2114 S. Wabash St.) is a natural venue for the event.

Andersonville is second only to Boystown when it comes to its LGBT bar scene. Here's how to hit up the best in one marathon night. Start your night on Clark at The Sofo Tap (4923 N. Clark St. 773-784-7636), where nightly drink and events include Slingshot Sundays with karaoke and Tuesday Tringo - a trivia/bingo hybrid. Next, head to T's (5025 N. Clark St. 773-784-6000) for a round of drinks on the sidewalk patio. Then, Amp up the energy at bumpin' club Atmosphere (5355 N. Clark St. 773-784-1100)

TBOX, which began as the "Twelve Bars of XMas" and now includes 41 bars, is an annual event held the Second Saturday in December in the Wrigleyville Neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It started out as just another Pub Crawl, and over the years has evolved into one of the largest and most spectacular events of its kind in the world. The event was founded in 1996 by Chicagoan Christopher Festa as a “just for fun” event for a few of his friends from work, and has grown from about 60 people the first year to an estimated 18,000 participants in 2011.

***1/2 (out of 4) The densely textured debut full-length by L.A. duo Inc. is designed for one purpose: getting you in the zen-like mindset needed for an all-night sex marathon. If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, may I recommend Carly Rae Jepsen? Bandmates and brothers Daniel and Andrew Aged honed their skills as session musicians for everyone from Raphael Saadiq to 50 Cent. As Inc., the Ageds take their shot at reinventing how the R&B genre sounds in the 2010s, continuing the mission recently championed by artists like The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Solange, The Dream, and Miguel.

**** (out of four) Yessssssssss! Honestly, that's all that needs to be said. This song kicks so much butt. Monae hasn't released an album since 2010's "The ArchAndroid," and she's due to drop "The Electric Lady" sometime this year. She's, like, really, really overdue. And if the rest of the album sounds anything like "Q.U.E.E.N. ", it should win every Grammy. If you've only heard of Monae because she guested on fun.'s "We Are Young," you're in for a pretty huge surprise--and probably aren't prepared for the creativity that's about the blast your brain open.
