This probably isn't what you'd expect to hear from the wingman, but here goes: The Super Bowl isn't worth your time or energy. It's an American tradition that is in dire need of a shake-up. Allow me to break down why the Super Bowl is a bona fide crap-a-thon. It isn't really for the fans The corporate shilling is so depressing, it makes me want to sell all my possessions and go live in a tree like my friend Timmy D. I understand the ads are what make the game go 'round, but do we really need the third annual Valtrex Tommy Bahama Cialis Margaritaville Turner Classic Movies Celebrity Pro-Am Keno...

Is it just us, or was everyone mad heading into this Super Bowl? Brian Urlacher still upset with the Bears. Hall of Fame linemen taking shots at would-be Hall of Fame linemen. Meteorologists kneeing guys in the groin (seriously, did you see The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore? Badass). Then there was the game itself. Denver's super offense vs. Seattle's super defense. Peyton Manning's arm vs. Richard Sherman's mouth. Everybody vs. the weather. Maybe that's what happens when you put the Super Bowl in - er, right next to - New York.

This is it! The one time of year everyone actually looks forward to TV commercials. As an advertising creative director, I consider Super Bowl commercials the Holy Grail of my industry, and nobody is more glued to the TV on Sunday than I am. I literally drool over the commercials, but that's starting to change. The hot new thing in advertising - as we've all noticed in the past couple of years - is prereleasing commercials. While brands think it's necessary, it's just plain annoying.

Hey, it's me, your one friend who moved to New York City, you know, to pursue acting/art/music. Things are going great. This week "Blue Bloods" filmed in the restaurant where I wait tables. And I'm pretty sure I saw Dennis Quaid on the street yesterday. Only in New York! But I have to admit I miss Chicago. You don't put your garbage on the sidewalks. So quaint! As you know, the Super Bowl is coming to New York this year and we are mildly excited. And by "New York" I mean New Jersey, which is like our Milwaukee.

Could Chicago ever host the Super Bowl? While all eyes will be on New York/New Jersey this Sunday for the first open-air, cold weather Super Bowl, Chicagoans have been debating for years whether the Big Game could come to the Windy City. Short answer: It's complicated. Bears chairman George McCaskey, who is on the NFL's Super Bowl committee, talked to the Chicago Tribune last March about whether the city could host. "It will depend on what happens in New York/New Jersey in 2014.

Super Bowl Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year. There's football. There are celebrities. There are funny commercials. There's beer - uh, I mean, water. There's food. Ahhhh, the food. Among canines, Super Bowl Sunday is among the top table-scraps days of the year, right behind Thanksgiving and that day our humans trip over us after retrieving the pizza from the deliveryman. I didn't mean to be right under your feet, no sir. The real reason for Super Sunday, of course, is the NFL's title game.

Okay, this new teaser for Iron Man 3 from the Super Bowl gives me all I need to know that I'm going to be in line for this flick when it hits theaters in May! Quick hits of Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin , Don Cheadle as War Machine (or is he Iron Patriot ?) and an awesome bit of Tony Stark being a hero. With way too many movie trailers giving away all the best spots in the movies they promote, I hope that the folks at Marvel Entertainment just stop here. And yes, Robert Downey Jr. , you are as charming as ever.  Take my money...

With the Bears' season just a fading memory, Sunday's Super Bowl represents little for Chicago fans beyond an excuse to party. A successful game day involves just the right ratio of plasma TVs to nachos to pints, making choice of venue of utmost importance. So, is it better to watch the Super Bowl at home or at a bar? Party at home Ernest Wilkins erwilkins@tribune.com @ernestwilkins You know what's really fun, cool and exciting? Uncle Jesse isn't the only one who can play this game. With the news that the men of "Full House" have reassembled for a Super Bowl commercial, we've got some powerhouse '90s reunion ideas of our own. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" When you think vampires, you think blood. Or better yet, bloody marys. Which is where Mike Ditka and his signature Kickass mix come in. It's vampires, it's football - it works on so many levels! "Hang Time" As the stars get older, all those hours on the court are tough on the body.

It's okay to admit they both made you choke up, but the question is: Which one is better?  Budweiser released their 2014 Super Bowl commercial featuring its iconic Clydesdales, and this year, there are puppies. Specifically, one puppy who bonds with a horse, and despite being adopted into a forever home, keeps finding his way back to the stable to meet his equine friend. It's BAWW-worthy for sure, but the question remains: Does it top last year's ad, featuring a similar theme of a bond between a horse and his handler?

Don't kid yourself - everything's a competition. Even Super Bowl Media Day. We feel safe declaring Richard Sherman the overall winner. This year's best team in the state of Illinois has an anthem. Sung to the beat of Mann's "Mack"--which also features Snoop Dogg and IYAZ--two NIU alumni have penned what is the 2013 equivalent of the Bears' 1985 "Super Bowl Shuffle. " NIU's student newspaper the Northern Star reports the brothers, Nolan and Trevor O'Malley,  wrote the song to honor the Huskies' potential to capture their third consecutive Mid America Conference title. The tune features shoutouts to several of the team's players, including quarterback Jordan Lynch, and proudly proclaims the team's status as BCS...

She's a survivor - a difficult feat in show business, even if you did leap to fame at age 19 as Beyonce's sidekick. In just a few short years, Rockford native Michelle Williams went from directing church and community choirs to winning a Grammy as part of pop trio Destiny's Child. Since then, in addition to her work as a solo gospel and R&B artist, Williams has spent some serious time on stage--in the title role of Broadway's "Aida," as Roxie Hart in the London production of "Chicago" and as Shug Avery in the national tour of "The Color Purple.
