I should have asked "Sherlock" co-creator Stephen Moffat if he follows the first rule of showbiz, "Always leave them wanting more," because that's what he's done with both seasons of the popular reinterpretation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" mystery stories. After a highly successful first season that drew 4.6 million viewers per each of three episodes on PBS' "Masterpiece Mystery!" last summer, the sleuth is back for three more installments ( 8 p.m. May 6, 13 and 20, WTTW in Chicago; 4 stars )

PBS released a teaser for Season 3 of "Sherlock" on Saturday that answers one burning questions about the master detective: Sherlock lives! The 30-second clip shows Sherlock's grave, flashing to an upset Dr. Watson(Martin Freeman) before going to Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) walking into a restaurant--without actually showing us his face. "Oh my," one woman in another room says before showing her phone to a friend. Then everyone in the room gets messages that say #SherlockLives, #SherlockHolmesAlive!

BBC America has released a new trailer for the "Doctor Who" Christmas special, "The Time of the Doctor," that fills in a few gaps in the story we saw in previous clips. We now know that Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) pleads with the Doctor himself (Matt Smith) to "change the future" in order to save himself from the foes gathered to fight him on the planet Trenzalore, where he will soon be buried. "You will die in silence, Doctor," says one of the Daleks facing him. We also see The Silence, Cybermen and what looks to be a new foe, Tasha Lem (Orla Brady)

Leave it to Doctor Who head writer/showrunner Steven Moffat to pull out a surprise from his bag of tricks, as a previous incarnation of the Doctor makes a sudden re-appearance in this "mini-episode" titled " Night of the Doctor ". So much talk has been made of how the 50th anniversary special would be a celebration of Doctor Who 's history, but that it would also move it into the future and a new era. From the looks of this prequel, it...

The Doctor and Clara Oswald obviously spend a lot of time in TARDIS as they fly through space in "Doctor Who. " Viewers, however, have had only glimpses of them aboard the time-traveling blue police box that's bigger on the inside. Until Saturday, when "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS" debuts on BBC America. Written by Stephen Thompson ("Sherlock") and directed by Mat King ("Law & Order: UK"), "Journey" opens on a spacecraft carrying the three-member salvage team of Gregor (Ashley Walters)

Doctor Who has found his new companion. Jenna-Louise Coleman will replace Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the long-running series when their characters make a "heartbreaking departure" later this year. BBC and BBC America announced the casting of 25-year-old Coleman on Wednesday, saying she will join series star Matt Smith for "Doctor Who's" 50th anniversary year. Six episodes of the 14-episode season will air on BBC America sometime this fall followed by the annual Christmas special, which will be Coleman's first...

"Doctor Who" star Matt Smith will leave the role at the end of this year, BBC announced Saturday. After four years as the Time Lord and appearing in the 50th anniversary special set to air Nov. 23 on BBC America, Smith's 11th Doctor will regenerate into the 12th during the 2013 Christmas special. The BBC statement said Smith's "spectacular exit" would be "kept tightly under wraps. " "'Doctor Who' has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show.

"Submarine. Lots of soldiers and Ice Warriors. " That's how "Doctor Who" star Jenna-Louise Coleman summed up "Cold War" episode. In the episode debuting at 7 p.m. CT April 13 on BBC America, the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Clara (Coleman) land the TARDIS in 1983 and inside a Russian nuclear submarine whose captain (played by "Games of Thrones" actor Liam Cunningham) is already dealing with another surprise guest--an Ice Warrior. Fans haven't seen the classic "Doctor Who" foes that first appeard in 1967 to fight Patrick Troughton's Second Doctor since the...

The Eighth Doctor finally gets his regeneration scene in Steven Moffat's "Doctor Who" minisode, "The Night of the Doctor"--thus ending a 17-year wait for a complete set of regeneration scenes. The minisode offers tantalizing clues about the upcoming 50th anniversary special and answers the question of who John Hurt is playing in "The Day of the Doctor. " He's the War Doctor, who may not be a Doctor at all. Unfortunately, Doctor No. 9 Christopher Eccleston declined to be part of the minisode.

Mark Jan. 19 in your calendar, folks. That's the date "Sherlock" returns to PBS. The network Wednesday announced its winter/spring schedule, which also reminds fans that Season 4 of "Downton Abbey" will air at 8 p.m. CT Jan. 5 through Feb. 23. In the new season, Crawley family members are at odds over how to deal with the estate, and Mary struggles after the death of her husband. Hopefully Season 3 of "Sherlock" will answer the burning question we were left with so long ago: How did Sherlock survive that fall?

"Doctor Who" closes out its seventh modern season Saturday with the season's best episode, "The Name of the Doctor. " Written by showrunner Steven Moffat, the episode does exactly what he said it would: It solves the puzzle that is Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) and pushes forward the mythology of the Time Lord. Get ready for major surprises, Whovians. "The Doctor is moving forward as he always does and he wants to solve the mystery of Clara," Moffat told writers during a conference call earlier this year.
