Starz gives another nod to Chicago history with the key art for Season 2 of its political drama "Boss. " In the image, Chicago Mayor Tom Kane (Kelsey Grammar) holds an iron hook--no, this isn't a horror/slasher series, but Kane does do horrible things--as his family members, employees and political pawns are shown hanging from meat hooks. The caption says, "Power consumes everyone," while the Starz plug for the key art says, "In Kane's world you either show blind allegiance like cattle or become just another piece of meat for the machine.

The Season 2 trailer for Starz' "Boss"drops the bad news to Kelsey Grammer's Mayor Tom Kane right away. "Mr. Mayor, you have to know," says his doctor, Ella Harris (Karen Aldridge), "your best days are behind you. " Ouch. The trailer shows the embattled Chicago mayor's hands trembling thanks to the degenerative disease he's trying to hide from both friends and foes. But that secret battle isn't the only one he's fighting in the new season, which premieres at 8 p.m. Aug. 17 on Starz.

When I first met Andy Whitfield in 2010, the "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" star joked about creator Steven S. DeKnight's penchant for killing off lead characters on what he would help make a hit series for Starz. "Who knows, maybe I won't survive this season," he said. "And that would be OK, because Spartacus isn't just one man; it's a movement, the rebellion he launched. If he died, any one of his followers could carry on and say, 'I am Spartacus.'" Liam McIntyre will do just that when "Spartacus: Vengeance," the long-awaited second season, begins at 9...

It doesn't look as if Starz' upcoming pirate drama "Black Sails" is going the cheesy route. The network today revealed an ominous looking--and extremely cool--official key art for the Michael Bay series, which is set to premiere its eight-episode first season in January 2014. It shows a man's head and arms emerging from a dark background that make it appear to be a skull and crossbones ala a pirate's flag. Starz also released a new video teaser for the series with the words, "Rise up, and take what's yours" (see below)

Leonardo da Vinci was an inventor, artist, polymath, visionary and free thinker--a genius who is the very definition of the term Renaissance Man. Viewers of "Da Vinci's Demons" ( 9 p.m. April 12, Starz; 3.5 stars out of 4 ) also will have to be free thinkers to enjoy Starz's unapologetically entertaining new drama from the Dark Knight Trilogy writer David S. Goyer. This is not Da Vinci we know from history classes as the elderly, bearded painter of such masterpieces as "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper.
