South Shore has seen two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. On Tuesday, an 18-year-old man was shot to death in the 2400 block of East 75th Street, police said. Four days earlier, a 50-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7800 block of South Yates Boulevard, officials said. South Shore has seen 16 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 15 homicides last year, according to RedEye data. An employee at a recently-opened South Loop H&M store was arrested Monday after he was allegedly caught stealing close to $2,000 worth of merchandise, county prosecutors said. Shamone Williams, 23, of the 8500 block of South Yates Boulevard, used a process called "under-ringing" to switch lower-priced items for higher-priced items for sale at the clothing outlet. The police report said Williams was caught on store security cameras taking thousands of dollars of men's clothing from the store.

The Northwest Side saw three homicides in the last week, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data. On Monday, a 24-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the 6500 block of West Addison Street in Dunning, police said. On Friday, a 36-year-old man was fatally shot in the 2800 block of North Spaulding Avenue in Avondale, according to officials. That same day, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the 2900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue in Belmont Cragin, police said.

Four men were arrested overnight Sunday after they tried to hijack a car belonging to an off-duty police officer, county prosecutors said. Marcus Johnson, 36, of the 4100 block of South Prairie Avenue; Deonta Brown, 21, of the 7400 block of South Yates Boulevard; Michael Jackson, 20, of the 2400 block of East 74th Street; and Rashee Herron, 21, of the 7400 block of South Phillips Street, were brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Monday...

A Chicago man checked out of a Loop hotel Monday morning, and checked into police custody, after he was accused of using a fake credit card to pay for his stay. Bryant Larkin, 25, was arrested Monday morning on charges of aggravated identity theft after he allegedly used a fake card with stolen information to pay for two separate nights at the Hyatt Regency hotel on East Wacker Drive on Jan. 13 and 19. Larkin, of the 9700 block of South Yates Boulevard in Jeffrey Manor, was also charged with three counts...
