Chicago on Sunday recorded four homicides--the highest one-day total since January, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. According to police: At 3:30 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot to death in the 2800 block of East 76th Street in South Shore. Later that morning, an 82-year-old woman was found beaten to death in the 7800 block of Euclid Avenue in South Shore. At 4 p.m., a 21-year-old was fatally shot in the 6500 block of South Green Street in Englewood.

On Saturday, Woodlawn saw its third homicide of the month and 13th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 30-year-old man was shot to death in the 6300 block of South Ellis Avenue, police said. Woodlawn recorded eight homicides last year, RedEye data shows. Meanwhile, on Sunday, a 55-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 200 block of West 115th Street in Roseland, police said. Roseland has seen 17 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area logged 26 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.

The Near West Side on Saturday recorded its seventh homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 26-year-old man was shot to death in the 1300 block of West Washburne Avenue, police said. The community area, which includes the West Loop, University Village and the Illinois Medical District, recorded nine homicides in 2011, RedEye data shows. Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Austin, Chicago Lawn, Greater Grand Crossing, Morgan Park and South Shore, according to RedEye data.

New City on Saturday recorded its 21st homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 27-year-old man was shot to death in the 4400 block of South Marshfield Avenue, police said. Fifteen homicides were logged in New City last year, RedEye data shows. Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in the community areas of Englewood, O'Hare, South Deering and South Shore, RedEye determined. Six homicides have been recorded so far this month.
