Chicago just got pounded with a monster blizzard, and all of your friends are wearing sandals and prancing around in the Texas sunshine at SXSW for the next week. Awesome, right? Nah, it kind of blows. Confession: I'm one of those a-holes who will be soaking up the warmth at the music and tech festival for the next week, and, well ... sorry I'm not sorry about that. But here's the thing: I am kind of sorry you have to deal with a barrage of tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram photos reminding you how much fun you're missing out on while you're buried under a foot of snow and someone's armpit on the Red Line.

After hearing Facebook had altered the news feed yet again, I opened my phone's app to check it out. The first message I saw was from a girl I know: "My heart is super heavy, I just lost one of my best friends, Chad Dorsey. " "No, no, no," I said aloud as I grabbed my laptop to check out Chad's Facebook page. Sure enough, the telltale sign of a man's death already was there: The "RIP" posts and testimonials about how awesome Chad was had taken over his timeline. It was true. My homie had passed away.

Conan O'Brien must be having a big ol' chuckle today. Jay Leno continues his feud with NBC, seemingly pushing the network into replacing him with Jimmy Fallon as host of "The Tonight Show," a job O'Brien had, then lost when Leno decided he wanted to return to it. Well, O'Brien is experiencing no such turmoil over at TBS. The network has renewed his "Conan" talker through November 2015. "When we invited Conan O'Brien to come to TBS, we knew he would bring with him a passionately loyal following of young adults," Turner honcho Michael Wright said in the statement below "Conan and his colleagues at Team Coco have gone far beyond that by making 'Conan' the top late-night brand in the digital arena.

TipsyCake bakery is getting slammed on social media over what some in Humboldt Park say are tasteless remarks made by its owner. Owner Naomi Levine said in a CitySoles TV interview posted on YouTube this week that she chose the Bucktown location at 1944 N. Damen Ave. to open a storefront where "nobody would be too scared. " CitySoles, a Wicker Park store, posts videos about Bucktown and Wicker Park businesses to its website . Levine opened TipsyCake in 2006 in Humboldt Park, where the pastries are still produced, but picked Bucktown for her shop because there were "too many gunshots in the cake" in Humboldt Park, she says in the video.

The city's Facebook page reads like a digital history book of Chicago's leaders. The Facebook timeline feature, which went live Friday for pages, shows photos of each mayor, from William Butler Ogden in 1837 when the city was incorporated to present day Rahm Emanuel, along with factual tidbits and links to inauguration speeches. "Facebook's new timeline gives us a unique way to not only show folks where we're going with the city but where we've come from," said Kevin Hauswirth, director of social media.

He hit 609 home runs and created one grand slam of a Pinterest page. Now, former Cub Sammy Sosa wants to answer any and all questions that you might have. Sosa announced on his Facebook page that he'll be hosting a live webcast today at noon, broadcasting to the masses live from Ft. Lauderdale. So why's he doing something like this now? His spokesperson Maggie Curran says he wants to prove to the internet that he's more real than Lennay Kekua. “After getting involved with social media Sammy realized he had many fans that were trying to reach out to him,” Curran said.

More often than not, the playoffs bring out the best in players - and in fans. But on occasion, they also can bring out the worst. There are a number of Bulls fans who fall into the latter category, who have been spewing hateful and vile things toward Derrick Rose lately via social media. These fans feel the Bulls could have won Game 1 of their playoff series against Brooklyn, and won by a bigger margin in Game 2 had Rose been in uniform. While he may be in good shape physically, Rose is still trying to get himself ready mentally.

Attention Chicagoans: There comes a time in every city when it must pool its people together for peace, justice and … Pumpkin spice lattes. For the second year in a row, Starbucks will promote its fall favorite through a series of challenges starting Monday. Based on a points system, one U.S. city and one Canadian city will receive the drink in-stores first. Starbucks will award points on three main criteria: sharing via social media (Facebook and Twitter); daily challenges including word searches and trivia; and creative challenges such as scrapbooking and pumpkin poetry.

Chicago Gourmet comes to the Windy City this weekend, and while we love every delicious minute of it, there's no denying that events of such a large scale can get chaotic. Bon Appetit has one practical solution to the inevitable sensory overload that sets in--oh, the minute you enter the massive annual event. They've created a mobile app that gives users the ability to customize the Chicago Gourmet experience. It debuted last year for iPhone users, but this year it's also available to Android users for the first time.

RedEye celebrates its 10th birthday today. (But really, we don't look a day over 5, right? Kidding. Sorta.) It's really not about us. It's about you, our readers. RedEye launched in 2002 with you in mind. We wanted to give you something entertaining, informative and quick to read on your monotonous daily commute. A lot has changed since 2002. We've steadily increased the paper's circulation (from 75,000 to 200,000 copies every weekday). We're no longer just a paper either. There's our online community at redeyechicago.com and our free iPhone app to help you navigate the city.
