**1/2 (out of four) Obvi, 2013 was supposed to be the year for Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber. Nay, it was supposed to be *their* year, when they would rent out not just the Staples Center but the entire globe, traversing it at their whimsy. Their reign would be one of a well-moisturized fist, converting everyone into a Belieber with adorable @-replies and great hair tips. Alas, the Biebs himself ruined this tweenage dream. Selena will have you know as much (if rumors are to be Beliebed)

***1/2 (out of four) I don't know how many artists have appeared naked on their debut album's cover, but it can't be very many. With a facial expression that says either “Why do things have to be so tough?” or “What are you doing in my shower?” Sky Ferreira's photo for her long-delayed “Night Time, My Time” presents not just physical vulnerability but an emotional openness that many young singers - cough, Selena Gomez - omit from their personality-free material. The approach matches Ferreira's startling appearance at Pitchfork 2013, during which the 21-year-old...

Selena Gomez stopped by "Late Show with David Letterman" Monday to promote her new film "Spring Breakers," but she also got in a little dig on her ex, Justin Bieber. When Letterman explained that he once made pop superstar Bieber cry, the 20-year-old cracked, "Well then, that makes two of us. " Bam! Gomez hadn't publicly addressed the split until now. As you can see in the clip above, she doesn't seem apologetic about the joke. Since their split, Bieber has raised eyebrows with some strange behavior.

*1/2 (out of four stars) Actors often explain a chosen role by saying, “I just loved the script.” There is absolutely no way that Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez would say that (truthfully) about “Getaway.” This 85-minute car chase believes in logic like the VMAs believe in music. The kidnapper, played in obscured close-up by the eyes and lips of Jon Voight, hatches a plan so elaborate it's as if he wanted it to fail. Former stock car racer Brent Magna (Hawke) steals a car and waits for instructions after this unknown caller (Voight)

When you break up with your longtime honey boo boyfriend, the first thing you need is your besties -- and probably vodka. Selena Gomez has at least one of those things covered, she told People mag of her buds Taylor Swift and Vanessa Hudgens. "It's helped having Taylor and Vanessa both be older than me. They've kind of experienced a little bit more, and at the same time we're experiencing the exact same things together," she said. Just what kind of advice are T-Swizzle and V-Hudge dealing out?

Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and, to a lesser extent, Ashley Benson break out of their squeaky clean child star images in "Spring Breakers" playing three of four college students whose spring break in Florida takes them from parties to jail and a criminal underworld. (The fourth is played by writer-director Harmony Korine's wife, Rachel.) Best known for their roles in Disney Channel or ABC Family shows, the 20somethings have talked about transitioning into more adult roles. Selena Gomez Age: 20 Career: Started on the pre-school...

Screw you, Internet. Thanks to a couple of posts on blogs that I refuse to own up to following, my afternoon has been dedicated to Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe. " If my Spotify could talk it would say something like "Emily Van Zandt listened to 'Call Me Maybe' 18.5 times today, kind of in a row. " Thankfully there's that whole "private session" function, which has never been more necessary. Apparently Jepsen was a contestant on Canadian Idol? And Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and some girl from a few Disney movies did a lip-synch YouTube video...

"I'm sorry, did you say 'meggings'?" This was my internal dialogue when I stumbled upon the headline "How 'meggings' are taking fashion by storm" on a British newspaper's website. I knew all too well what this meant. Meggings are leggings that are ... wait for it ... made for men. I once had an experience with a boyfriend who hated my jeggings. These are leggings that look like jeans - or jeans that look like leggings, depending on whether you're a glass-half-full kind of person.

***1/2 (out of four) If we cut loose with friends on vacation, do we lose ourselves or become who we really are? It's a big question generated in the unexpectedly great “Spring Breakers,” which, yeah, could be lazily dismissed as just an onslaught of boobs and naughty behavior - impressionistic debauchery that attempts to stylize many parents' worst nightmare. Yet the film is the rare exploration of identity that's likely to play repeatedly in dorm rooms and frat houses while also putting film classes to work.
