Executive Pastry Chef Alekka Sweeney is busy helping everyone from the oven oblivious to the cookie connoisseur give a little sugar this holiday. "Give Me Some Sugar," which opened its doors in Roscoe Village last month, is an expansion of Sweeney's cooking class business, which offers cookie, cake and candy making and decorating tutorials near the corner of Belmont and Leavitt. "They are like little mini works of art," Sweeney said of the creations she helps her students make in a two-day cookie decorating class.

It's been a longstanding deal at Hot Doug's: Get a tattoo of the hot dog joint's logo anywhere on your body and you get free hot dogs for life. Jason S. Thompson is one of those who took the deal. “My sodium intake level is dwindling at the same rate of my spirits,” Thompson said Tuesday after hearing the news.

Rob Garcea already proved he's literally the best in Chicago at holding his liquor. Now he's taking the talent he didn't even know he had to New York. The 30-year-old Roscoe Village resident said he hadn't even heard of a beer stein holding competition--called Masskrugstemmen--when he stumbled into Uberstein after a Cubs game about six weeks ago. But on Friday, he came back a little more prepared, and won a trip to New York to represent Chicago in a national Masskrugstemmen championship.

Cyclists, get ready for life in the fast lane in Roscoe Village. The Chicago Department of Transportation is working on installing a buffered bike lane on Roscoe Street between Western and Damen Avenues. Buffered bike lanes offer more room between cyclists and parked cars than a typical bike lane. They use a striped buffer on one or both sides of a bike lane. Protected bike lanes, such as the one on Kinzie Street between Milwaukee Avenue and Wells Street, use posts to separate bikes from cars.
