Compare the dating scene a decade ago to today's vibe and you couldn't have two more opposite entities. Texting, sexting, Facebook messaging, Tinder using, Snapchatting … the list goes on and on. Enter Aziz Ansari, a South Carolina-born comic who can not only riff on the subject, but draw from personal moments that prove "we're all dealing with the same nonsense," he said. Ansari, 31, best known for his role as Tom Haverford on NBC's "Parks and Recreation," is in the midst of his "Modern Romance" comedy tour, which lands in Chicago for four shows (7 p.m. and 10 p.m....

Is the stage being set for a bad romance? Earlier this week, Channing Tatum talked about his new onscreen wife in "The Bitter Pill," which recently began production. And it's not the usual suspect either -- his lady love will be played by Rooney Mara. Huh? While Tatum met his real-life wife, Jenna Dewan, on the set of "Step Up," we don't really see the spark here. Check out where Channing and Rooney rate on our rankings of recent odd TV/movie couples, from most to least likely. damoran@tribune.com | @Redeyedana Ryan Gosling and Blow-Up Doll "Lars and the Real Girl" True, this movie...

*** (out of four) Some of the best songs on British singer-songwriter Charli XCX's debut album, “True Romance,” have been floating around on the Internet for a couple of years, but, if anything, they seem more relevant than ever. There's a very conceivable future in which this brand of washed out, distorted electronic music is all over pop radio, and gifted songwriter Charli XCX seems like a solid candidate to make that happen. In fact, Charli XCX's collab with Swedish duo Icona Pop, “I Love It” has already been creeping up the charts.

I have a new female roommate that moved in a month ago, and I have a crush on her. I have taken her to a movie once, but I'm shy and never asked personal questions during or after the movie. How should I approach her without making her uncomfortable? I heard from my sister (also my roommate) that she is seeing someone. I'm in my early 30s, and she is in her early 20s. What's my best way to ask her out again for dinner or drinks or some summer events? Note: She is a very outgoing person, goes out a lot and likes to party out with "friends.” I need help...

Now that the Blackhawks season is over, it's time for baseball season in Chicago to officially start. So here's a quick recap of the 2013 season. The Cubs and White Sox have played some games. The Cubs and White Sox have lost most games. A man named Brian Bogusevic is on the Cubs. But that doesn't mean the Sox and Cubs aren't worth watching. In fact, bad years are what make good years so enjoyable (in theory, for Cubs fans). And just because something is bad doesn't mean people don't want to see it. Just look at summer...

HBO's "Looking" might follow the lives of gay friends in San Franscico, but one thing that drew star O-T Fagbenle to the show was the way the stories resonate with people of any sexuality. Many people have had restless partners, for example. Fagbenle stars as Frank, the longtime boyfriend of artist Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez). As the series began, Agustin moved to Oakland to live in domestic bliss with Frank. That lasted about 10 minutes. Agustin since has initiated a threesome and, after meeting hunky man-hooker CJ (TJ Linnard)

While Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent - the husband-wife duo behind Shovels & Rope - had no qualms about committing to a life with each another, they never intended those vows to spill over into their music. “We started recording together for fun, and because it was something different to do,” said Trent, who was playing with his group the Films when he first met solo performer Hearst. “We never really saw ourselves as being in a band together.” Happily this is no longer the case, judging by the success of the Charleston, S.C., pair's...
