(originally published Nov. 17, 2008) In conversation, "Twilight" star and sudden mega-heartthrob Robert Pattinson frequently breaks into a giddy, surprised laugh - like he can't believe the silliness of becoming, seemingly overnight, the sort of actor who receives questions about his hair and the love of thousands of screaming girls. You can't blame him for being a bit overwhelmed. The anticipation for the big screen adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's hit novel - about immortal vampire Edward Cullen (Pattinson)

Now that Bella (Kristen Stewart) has delivered vampire baby Renesmee, Dr. Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli) is officially a grandfather. “It's weird being a grandfather at such a young age. I didn't quite like being called grandpa,” Facinelli said, laughing. “But [Edward, played by Robert Pattinson is] a dad now. So we're all kind of growing up. It happens.” It sure does. Four years after “The Twilight Saga” franchise adapted from Stephenie Meyer's novels became a mega-squeal-inducing phenomenon, this weekend's “Breaking Dawn - Part 2”...

*** (out of four) None of Robert Pattinson's roles have fully lined up with his shifty absent-mindedness. In “Twilight,” he tries to make Edward mysterious and tortured, but comes off as vacant. In this year's “Bel Ami,” he plays a social climber without any of the perspective or charisma that would have justified the romantic opportunities he unconvincingly obtains. In writer-director David Cronenberg's disturbing, oddly funny “Cosmopolis,” Pattinson's inherent, detached restlessness finally becomes an asset.

*1/2 (out of four) In “Midnight in Paris,” Adriana (Marion Cotillard) longs for an earlier era, unfulfilled by 1920s Paris. If she saw the city in 1890 as presented in “Bel Ami,” she might stop dreaming of the past. Based on Guy de Maupassant's 1895 novel but adapted by a first-time feature writer and directors, “Bel Ami” amateurishly presents the period's gender roles and apparently rampant infidelity without any clarity to the relationships themselves. Social climber Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson)

The news that Kristen Stewart cheated with a married, British director hit all of us pretty hard. But imagine for a second that you're Robert Pattinson -- his heart probably is slightly more broken right now. Before R-Patz has his first post-cheating interview with Jon Stewart on Monday, we took a peek at his (totally fictional) diary to see how he's handling things in the week leading up to his "Daily Show" appearance. damoran@tribune.com | @redeyedana Monday Morning has become night.

Obviously, the world will never be the same again. Kristen Stewart and her “Twilight” co-star Robert Pattinson. K-Stew and R-Pattz. Stroganoff and Puffinson (unofficial nicknames). Call 'em what you want; they appear to be done. That'll happen sometimes after infidelity, particularly globally publicized infidelity involving that time-honored scandal, the actress and the director. In this case, as you probably know by now, it was Stewart and her “Snow White and the Huntsman,” 41-year-old, married-with-kids director Rupert Sanders, whose name is surely...

Is it possible to be the best and the worst at the same time? Ask Adam Sandler. His wretched "Jack and Jill" cleaned up at the 32nd annual Razzie Awards last weekend, sweeping the entire 10-category event. Could it really have been that bad? We took a look at the competition in a few key categories to see how this historic victory was achieved.   DAMORAN@TRIBUNE.COM | @REDEYEDANA Worst Actor Victory: Sandler The rest: Russell Brand, "Arthur"; Nicolas Cage, "Drive Angry 3-D," "Season of the Witch" and "Trespass"; Taylor Lautner,...

That is, if Ryan Gosling, Robert Pattinson, Zac Efron, Joe Jonas and Pharrell are on your list. They made the cut on Chrissy Mahlmeister's list of hot and cool guys the 25-year-old Columbia College Chicago graduate came up with when she thought of putting faces on fingernails. It all started with Ryan Gosling. Thinking about Gosling. Joking about Gosling. "Oh my god, wouldn't it be amazing to have Ryan Gosling on your fingers?"
