Like the rest of the world, Chicago has four seasons. However, that thing they call "spring" is a total myth, and we'd all love for "winter," aka Helm's Deep, to stick it where the sun don't shine. (Which is itself, so never mind.) But then there's fest season, those glorious months from June through September when cocktails are best drunk from a pineapple, the best music comes from a cover band and anything eaten off a stick is revered. It's why we Chicagoans spent the past for-ev-er clawing our eyes out in the manner of Edvard Munch's "The Scream.

Immediately when the Riot Fest lineup was announced Wednesday night, many noted how this year's bash (Sept. 13-15 in Humboldt Park) ranks among the summer's best music fests. It's easily better than the underwhelming Lolla lineup and deserves to be discussed against an unusually strong Pitchfork roster. Here are 15 reasons (in alphabetical order) this year's Riot Fest roster, well, rocks. AFI You might know them from the hit "Girl's Not Grey," but this Cali band has a solid arsenal of catchy, melodic alterna-punk.

It will cost an estimated $54,300 to repair the park to its original condition after Riot Fest, Chicago Park District Spokesperson Marta Juaniza said. Aeration of the grounds and grass seeding will begin this fall around the perimeter of the part, and work in the area of the baseball fields will be held until spring to allow programming and activities to continue this fall. Hands up in the air! Now sing it with me, people: "Ooooh baby do you know what that's worth? Ooooh heaven is a place on Earth!" Yes, those are the glorious musical stylings of Belinda Carlisle, the former Go-Go's singer who will open Northalsted Market Days this summer. Kind of a perfect combo, no? Tuesday's announcement of this delightful headliner - plus the desire to think about warm weather instead of the fact that I've worn nothing but duck boots for four months - got me imagining other epic Chicago summer festival headliners.

A year after their first foray into transitioning to an entirely outdoors music festival, Riot Fest organizers put all of their cards on the table to make 2013 the biggest year yet. They stocked the lineup with everyone from legends (The Replacements) to crowd-pleasers (Fall Out Boy), added Denver to the list of out-of-town expansions, kept ticket prices lower than any other fest and promised a full-on experience with the return of carnival games and sideshow performers. And then there was the guy who ran the Twitter account.

UPDATE: Riot Fest announced late Wednesday that The Replacements will be one of its 2013 headliners. The band reunited late last year after disbanding in 1991.   For its second year as an outdoor music fest (and carnival) in Humboldt Park, Riot Fest has reeled in some major acts to play Humboldt Park at the end of the summer (Sept. 13-15). Organizers announced the first wave of the 2013 Riot Fest lineup Wednesday night, with Fall Out Boy, Blink 182 and one TBA act headlining.

The Replacements. That's really all it should take to make you throw on an extra piece of black clothing and beeline for Riot Fest this weekend in Humboldt Park. Add to the lineup Fall Out Boy, Brand New, Pixies and every other band that your awkward self loved between 7th and 10th grade, and it's pretty much a no-brainer. Not into the punkier side of stuff? Two other fests - Crush in Old Town and Berghoff Oktoberfest - have your drinking needs covered, or you can get your art on at Lakeview East Festival of the Arts.

Chicago's music fest-goers may have rioted and raged this weekend, but they didn't get into much trouble with the law, police officials said. Just two Riot Fest attendees were arrested during the weekend's concerts in Humboldt Park, CPD officials said. And both arrests were misdemeanor arrests, which are less-severe than felony arrests. Police said one person was arrested for trespass, and another for soliciting unlawful business, over the course of the entire event. The concert brought nearly eighty bands to the city's West...
