Morgan Park and South Shore each recorded a homicide in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Morgan Park, a 48-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday in the 11400 block of South Rockwell Street, police said. Morgan Park has logged one homicide so far this year. The Southwest Side community area recorded four homicides last year, according to RedEye data. In South Shore, a 26-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday in the 7800 block of South Muskegon Avenue, officials said.

Chicago on Sunday logged its 300th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the 1700 block of West 21st Place on the Lower West Side, police said. Chicago reached 300 homicides in 2012 on July 23 and in 2011 on Sept. 11, RedEye determined. Homicides are down 21 percent year-to-date versus 2012 and on par with 2011. Eleven homicides have been recorded so far this month, according to RedEye data.

South Chicago on Sunday saw Chicago's first double homicide of the year, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data. Two men, ages 18 and 35, were shot to death in the 9100 block of South Commercial Avenue, officials said. Chicago logged 11 double homicides last year, down from 24 double homicides in 2012, according to RedEye data. In the last week, gunshot homicides were recorded in Austin, Chatham, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, Portage Park and South Lawndale, RedEye determined.

Morgan Park and Woodlawn each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Morgan Park, a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot Saturday in the 1100 block of West 112th Place, officials said. Two days earlier, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the 11100 block of South Throop Street, police said. Morgan Park has logged three homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The South Side community area recorded nine homicides last year, RedEye determined.

Austin and South Deering each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Austin, an 18-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the 1000 block of North Lawler Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 39-year-old man was fatally shot in the 300 block of North Latrobe Avenue, according to officials. Austin, Chicago's largest community area, has logged 22 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The West Side community recorded 30 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.

Two men were stabbed to death in separate incidents in Chicago in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death Monday in the 600 block of West Stratford Place in Lakeview, police said. Four days earlier, a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in the 10200 block of South Crandon Avenue in South Deering, officials said. Nine people have been stabbed to death in Chicago homicides so far this year, a RedEye analysis found.

Greater Grand Crossing on Tuesday logged its fifth homicide in about a month, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. An 18-year-old man was shot to death in the 6900 block of South Princeton Avenue, police said. Greater Grand Crossing has recorded 19 homicides so far this year, according to RedEye data. The South Side community area logged 21 homicides last year. Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Calumet Heights, Chatham, New City, Uptown, Washington Park and West Elsdon, data shows.

West Pullman on Tuesday saw a double homicide, the first double homicide in Chicago since June, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data. Two men, ages 35 and 38, were shot to death in the 100 block of East 120th Street, police said. West Pullman has logged 12 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 13 homicides last year, according to RedEye data. The previous double homicide was June 28 when a 31-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy were shot to death in the 5300 block of South Winchester Avenue in New City, RedEye found.

Austin, Englewood and the Near West Side each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Austin, a 27-year-old man was shot to death Saturday in the 500 block of South Cicero Avenue, police said. Three days earlier, a 46-year-old man was fatally shot in the 5500 block of West Washington Boulevard, officials said. Austin has recorded 29 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The West Side community area logged 23 homicides last year, RedEye determined.
