Austin and Woodlawn each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Austin, a 26-year-old man was shot to death Monday in the 400 block of North Lawler Avenue, police said. A day before, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the 5100 block of South Kinzie Street, officials said. Austin has recorded nine homicides so far this year, according to RedEye data. The West Side community area logged 30 homicides in 2011, RedEye data shows.

Four Chicago community areas logged their second homicides of 2014 in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. Each of the community areas--Austin, Englewood, South Shore and Woodlawn--saw their first homicide of the year in January, RedEye determined. In Englewood, a 69-year-old man was stabbed to death Friday in the 900 block of West 63rd Parkway, police said. Englewood logged 23 homicides last year, up from 21 homicides in 2012, according to RedEye data.

Chicago on Friday surpassed 300 homicides for the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. The city reached this mark Sept. 13 last year, RedEye data shows. Five men were shot and killed between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, according to the Tribune, pushing the city over the 300 mark. Forty-four homicides have been recorded so far this month, RedEye data, found here , shows. Last year, fifty-five homicides were logged in July, according to the same data.

Chicago today logged its 350th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. Two men were shot to death today in the 10500 block of South Lafayette Avenue in Roseland, the Tribune reported. Chicago reached 350 homicides in 2012 on Aug. 21 and in 2011 on Oct. 19, RedEye determined. Homicides are down 18 percent versus 2012 and up 3 percent versus 2011, according to RedEye data.

Rogers Park on Monday recorded its third homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 36-year-old man was shot to death in the 1600 block of West Howard Street, police said. Rogers Park logged four homicides last year, down from seven homicides in 2012, RedEye determined. Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Burnside and West Garfield Park, according to police information. Four homicides have been logged so far this month.

West Garfield Park this week saw two homicides in 13 hours, police said. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in the 4200 block of West Wilcox Street, officials said. Thirteen hours earlier, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4200 block of West Jackson Boulevard, police said. West Garfield Park has recorded 14 homicides so far this year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. The West Side community area logged 18 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.

Two men were found beaten to death Friday in the 2400 block of West 45th Street in Brighton Park, police said. Brighton Park has logged six homicides so far this year. The Southwest Side community area recorded 10 homicides last year, RedEye determined. Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Bridgeport, Calumet Heights, Oakland, Roseland and West Garfield Park, RedEye data shows. September ended this week with 41 homicides, up from 39 homicides in September 2011, RedEye data shows.
