Adele lovers breathed a sigh of relief Tuesday when the Guardian announced she was expected to make a full recovery from vocal cord surgery (made slightly more awesome by the use of lasers). It's expected that she'll take one to two months to fully recover, which is like a century for someone who's makes your shower singing sound like Roz from "Monsters Inc. " Here's how we think she might pass the time. damoran@tribune.com  |  @redeyedana   45 percent -- Hopefully NOT texting with her ex, about whom "21" is written.

"I thought I was the only one in the whole city that was going through this. That's how quiet this epidemic is," said the man, whose name RedEye has agreed to withhold.

If you've seen this year's best picture, "12 Years a Slave," you know that the movie was based on the memoir by Solomon Northup, who was born in New York as a free man but was kidnapped in Washington, DC and sold into slavery. The New York Times apparently wrote about Northup's release from slavery long before that memoir was published. As part of Smithsonian Magazine's new series called "Vintage Headlines," the magazine released this pdf of a New York Times story from Jan. 20, 1853 , which includes details of "the...

Eminem, "Survival" * out of 4 Even by his own standards, Eminem's last album, “Recovery,” was particularly divisive. Stans couldn't even agree to disagree about Shady's new direction on the 2010 release, which was filled with rock-based beats and wailing hooks from Skylar Grey, and had half his fans lamenting his return while the rest bought more than 4 million copies of the record. Em's new song, "Survival," sounds like more of the same. You knew it was going to be that way when they announced it was debuting in the new "Call of Duty" trailer.

Kevin Ware's tibia fracture during Sunday's Louisville-Duke game was a gruesome injury and a sad one. Though his teammates rallied around him and defeated the Blue Devils to earn a trip to the Final Four, Ware will miss the rest of his sophomore season because of the compound fracture. As jeopardizing and serious as the injury looked, Ware was reportedly moving around on crutches already today. That's not unusual, said Dr. Mark Hutchinson, an orthopedic surgeon and head team physician at UIC Hospital.

I'd say this formula should put some people in the seats. Between writer Bret Easton Ellis ("American Psycho"), director Paul Schrader ("Auto Focus," "American Gigolo") and, oh yeah, star Lindsay Lohan, the upcoming film "The Canyons" has salaciousness written all over it. P.S. The movie co-stars porn star James Deen. So yeah. The just-released trailer only accentuates the movie's juiciness, embracing a level of camp that may or may not be a defense mechanism--if you don't take material seriously, it's easier to avoid people mocking your attempt at achieving something legitimate.
