It turns out even celebrities aren't immune from the real estate downturn - if they're selling, that is - and they, like anyone else, can benefit from falling home prices, too. Recent Chicago Magazine reports show Oscar-winning actress and singer Jennifer Hudson, a South Side native, has contracted to buy a Burr Ridge house in west suburban Burr Ridge for $2.795 million - a hefty discount from the original $4.2 million asking price....

A report by real-estate website Trulia has ranked Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood as one of the top 10 gayest neighborhoods in America. By identifying zip codes with high-concentrations of gay and lesbian couples (using Census data) and examining the average price-per-foot of real estate in that area, the report found the top 10 neighborhoods that were the most affordable for gay and lesbian people. In Edgewater, a home is averaged at $131 per square foot, making it the most affordable for gay and lesbian couples.

Forget that the house was once owned by a "local celebrity. " A Lakeview home currently for sale features underground tunnels from the Prohibition era. The four-bedroom, brick house in the 3500 block of South Marshfield Avenue was built in 1889, according to its listing. It's for sale for $550,000. The home owner said the tunnels were once used to shuttle liquor between buildings, but they are now "cemented up. " She declined further comment for this story. The listing also boasts that a "local celebrity" once lived there.

A refurbished CTA bus will bring fruits and vegetables to so-called food deserts on the South Side Tuesday. Mobile food market Fresh Moves is scheduled to make stops in Auburn Gresham and Chatham. Fresh Moves has partnered with Pangea Properties, a Chicago-based real estate firm, on the trips. For a year-and-a-half, Fresh Moves has been using a CTA bus to deliver nutritious food to those in need on the West Side. Earlier this year, the city donated a second bus to the effort.

Interested in living at the site of the old Lincoln Park Hospital? Rent could set you back $1,900 a month or more. MVP and Bulls superstar Derrick Rose wants to add space to his already-luxurious new Trump Tower digs with the purchase of a next-door neighbor's condo, according to the real estate agent who helped Rose find his pad. Three other owners in the building, which Blackhawks star Patrick Kane also calls home, had the same idea, said Phil Skowron. NBC officially named Seth Meyers to replace Jimmy Fallon as host of  "Late Night" in 2014 when Fallon takes over "The Tonight Show. " Meyers, a Northwestern University alum, is head writer at "Saturday Night Live" and "Weekend Update" anchor. "Late Night" will remain based in New York, NBC said in a release, with Lorne Michaels as executive producer and Mike Shoemaker continuing as day-to-day producer.
