Chicago on Thursday logged its 100th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 23-year-old man was shot to death Thursday in the 300 block of East Kensington Avenue in West Pullman, the Tribune reported. For the last eight years, except for last year, Chicago has logged its 100th homicide of the year in April. Chicago reached this mark on March 20 last year. Homicides are down 39 percent year-to-date compared to the same period in 2012 and down 6 percent compared to 2011.

Austin recorded two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. On Saturday, a 32-year-old man was shot to death in the 200 block of North Pine Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 38-year-old man was beaten to death in the 5100 block of West Concord Place, according to officials. Austin has logged 12 homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 31 homicides last year, down from 37 killings in 2012, RedEye determined.

Chicago today logged its 350th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. Two men were shot to death today in the 10500 block of South Lafayette Avenue in Roseland, the Tribune reported. Chicago reached 350 homicides in 2012 on Aug. 21 and in 2011 on Oct. 19, RedEye determined. Homicides are down 18 percent versus 2012 and up 3 percent versus 2011, according to RedEye data.

Chicago on Sunday logged its 100th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 40-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday in the 4100 block of West 26th Street in South Lawndale, the Tribune reported. Chicago logged its 100th homicide on April 30 in 2013 and March 19 on 2012. Chicago has recorded 31 homicides so far this month. The city logged 24 homicides in April 2013. Homicides are up 3 percent year to date versus 2013 and down 37 percent versus 2012, RedEye determined.

Rogers Park on Monday recorded its third homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 36-year-old man was shot to death in the 1600 block of West Howard Street, police said. Rogers Park logged four homicides last year, down from seven homicides in 2012, RedEye determined. Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Burnside and West Garfield Park, according to police information. Four homicides have been logged so far this month.

West Garfield Park this week saw two homicides in 13 hours, police said. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in the 4200 block of West Wilcox Street, officials said. Thirteen hours earlier, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4200 block of West Jackson Boulevard, police said. West Garfield Park has recorded 14 homicides so far this year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. The West Side community area logged 18 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.

Chicago this weekend surpassed 200 homicides for the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. The city logged its 200th homicide of 2013 on Saturday, RedEye determined. A 24-year-old man was shot to death in the 1000 block of West Maxwell Street on the Near West Side, according to police information. Chicago reached its 200th homicide on May 25 in 2012 and July 6 in 2011, according to RedEye data. Homicides are down 27 percent year to date versus 2012 and up 0.5 percent versus 2011.

Senior citizens rarely tend to be homicide victims in Chicago though in March, three of the 24 victims were more than 62 years old, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. This year, four of the 69 homicide victims &m-;nearly 6 percent of victims &m-; were older than 62, according to RedEye data as of Thursday afternoon. Last year, 10 out 435 victims were senior citizens, composing 2 percent of victims, RedEye determined. Three men in their 20s were shot to death in separate incidents in Chicago in the last week, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data. A 26-year-old man was fatally shot Monday in the 11300 block of South Forest Avenue in Roseland, police said. That same day, a 22-year-old man was shot to death in the 2500 block of East 84th Street in South Chicago, according to officials. On Friday, a 20-year-old man was fatally shot in the 300 block of East 51st Street in Grand Boulevard, police said.

Four Chicago community areas logged their second homicides of 2014 in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. Each of the community areas--Austin, Englewood, South Shore and Woodlawn--saw their first homicide of the year in January, RedEye determined. In Englewood, a 69-year-old man was stabbed to death Friday in the 900 block of West 63rd Parkway, police said. Englewood logged 23 homicides last year, up from 21 homicides in 2012, according to RedEye data.

Auburn Gresham recorded its second homicide of the month last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 29-year-old man was shot to death Feb. 6 in the 8100 block of South Marshfield Avenue, police said. Auburn Gresham has logged two homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 17 homicides last year, up from 16 homicides in 2012, according to RedEye data. Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week on the Near West Side and West Garfield Park, based on police information.
