Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Tom Morello, Patrick Stump ... the list of gifted guitarists from Chicago is a long one, and the list of their accomplishments is even longer. But one thing none of them ever had was a Dr. Pepper commercial. Apparently none of their fretwork ever approached the uniqueness of the Doctor's 23-flavor blend. Come April 8, one famous Chicago guitarist can claim that Pepper prize: legendary air guitarist Justin "Nordic Thunder" Howard, the 2012 Air Guitar Champion of the World.

A man was caught trying to steal more than $300 worth of goods from an Uptown drugstore Saturday, according to police officials. But before he could be arrested, he allegedly pepper-sprayed himself in the face. Two CVS drugstore employees told police they saw Dustin Cullins, 25, of the near South Side, stuff hundreds of dollars worth of products into a backpack on Saturday. The employees detained Cullins in a security room, according to the police report, and he told them he was willing to return the merchandise.

Elimination challenge: Teams of three are to cook chili and serve it at a rodeo.

Wow! Who knew America could get so hard core about a soft drink. Unless you missed it, let me fill you in. Dr Pepper launched an ad campaign this week for its new diet drink, Dr Pepper Ten, and the whole thing's been about as well-received as Crystal Pepsi. The public outcry isn't over the product - which is only 10 calories! - but for the all-male everything approach to the ads, which feature aliens and G.I. Joe-style laser guns and the super-subtle tagline "It's not for women. " There's even a companion Facebook app that allows users to exclude women.

As the Bears came off the practice field Wednesday afternoon, the players made a beeline for the locker room as reporters scurried toward the players. "Tim!" one veteran reporter yelled at Tim Jennings as he jogged to Halas Hall. "One question!" "Nope!" Jennings said with a grin as he spread his arms out like an airplane. "Got a flight to catch. " Why the rush? The bye week, of course! After five weeks of football, the Bears are off until their Oct. 22 game against Detroit. Fortunately, Julius Peppers was willing...

The varieties of 1/3-pound sausages include Ditka Hot Beef Polish Sausage (hickory-smooked beef sausage with cayenne pepper and other seasonings) as well as a chicken sausage made with sun-dried tomatoes, basil, garlic and mozzarella. Starting Aug. 9, the sausages will be served at a number of local restaurants--including Mike Ditka's, Gold Coast Dogs and America's Dogs--and sports venues such as Soldier Field.

**1/2 (out of four) For the record: The “Iron Man 3” action sequence in which Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) plucks people out of the sky as they plummet to the ground kicks all kinds of ass. It feels like director/co-writer Shane Black put parachutes on an entire film crew and tossed 'em out of a plane. What a scene. The rest of “Iron Man 3”? Hardly that exhilarating. That's partly because I find the egotistical Stark's incessant quippiness increasingly obnoxious rather than charming or funny.
