So, winter of 2014, right? That's all we have to say about Chiberia, snowpocalypse, polar vortex - whatever it was we all just lived through. Patio season is always highly anticipated in Chicago, but this year we may see stampedes to the first rooftops and sidewalks cafes open for business. Thankfully, this summer promises plenty of brand new outdoor spots, from fourth-floor cocktail gardens to European-style sidewalk seating. Since opening Lincoln Park pizzeria Homeslice earlier this year, owners Josh Iachelli and Clay Hamilton have introduced brunch service -- complete with Rumchata cereal and a pizza slice-garnished bloody mary -- and built out a spacious backyard patio.  Their latest project is tricking out a 1969 Airstream trailer with lounge seating for 20. "It is heated, cozy and will be open through the winter," Iachelli said. It should be ready to make its debut on the patio by the weekend of Nov. 15.  Want more?

Last week, you read up on 50 new patios, rooftops and sidewalk cafes debuting this season in our 2013 outdoor dining and drinking preview . To help pass the time until the warm weather sets in, here's the lowdown on seven existing outdoor spaces undergoing revamps. Sepia 123 N. It's that time of year again, when we strip down to as little clothing as we can stand, and eat and drink outside as frequently as humanly possible. Patio season is upon us! Joining the ranks of The Hotel Rafaello's Drumbar and Roof at The Wit, The Ritz-Carlton currently is constructing its own sky-grazing patio and lounge, The Dec, set to open in May. Located on the hotel's twelfth floor, The Dec will have a capacity of approximately 120 people with seats for 57 guests on sofas, traditional tables and bar stools. The focal point of the bar will be "The Lens," a reflective statue made of the same materials as "Cloud Gate" (The Bean"). "The Lens" is the work of Denver-based artist David Sorenson.
