Death Cab for Cutie will headline the 2014 installment of the Hideout Block Party/Onion AV Fest (Sept. 5-6 at Hideout), organizers announced Wednesday. Joining the iconic indie rockers will be The War on Drugs and Mac DeMarco, both of whom released a new album earlier this year. (The War on Drugs even made a song called "Red Eyes. " We appreciate the nod, guys!) Festgoers can also expect to hear from the D.C. unit The Dismemberment Plan, whose 2013 album "Uncanney Valley" was the band's first in 12 years.

As if another reason to drink on St. Patrick's Day was necessary, Chicago revelers can celebrate ranking high in city's that like to party. After being ranked the fourth most miserable city in the country by Forbes about a week ago (and the fourth most miserable city based on weather, according to weather.com), social-sharing website StumbleUpon ranked Chicago third among city's that like to party, according to an analysis of the site's data released Wednesday. It's not exactly scientific, but the site was able to analyze the habits of 25 million users of the site, breaking down...

Even though Arie Luyendyk Jr. declined to be the bachelor on this season of "The Bachelor," he hasn't strayed too far from the show while he focuses on his racing career. Between Sean Lowe's relentlessly outdoorsy dates and all the Tierra drama, Arie Jr. got some face time, and, for the finale, he'll be in Chicago hosting a viewing party as America watches to see which woman Sean will choose to marry and (probably) eventually divorce. The party will open its doors at 5:30 p.m. Mar. 11 and take place at Park West.

With the Bears' season just a fading memory, Sunday's Super Bowl represents little for Chicago fans beyond an excuse to party. A successful game day involves just the right ratio of plasma TVs to nachos to pints, making choice of venue of utmost importance. So, is it better to watch the Super Bowl at home or at a bar? Real talk: I've been lame lately. The decision to defy my worsening health and party until I lost my voice for a solid three days in honor of my 25th combined with my annual “it's cold outside and I should start saving for the holidays anyway” attitude has led to more frequent BYOB trips, followed by bedtimes my grandmother would laugh at. The same cannot be said for my upstairs neighbors. While I've been busy spending quality time with Netflix Instant, they've been having quite a time of it. And they have no issues sharing.

Review: Slippery Slope 2357 N. Milwaukee Ave. 773-799-8504 Rating: 3 1/2 (out of 4) Already hot Slippery Slope will be judged by whether people describe it as "a fun bar. " That's how partners Danny Shapiro and Andy Gould describe their ambitions for the two-week-old Logan Square spot, and while that goal may sound laughably simple, it's anything but. The prevailing cocktail trend in the city was, for a while, toward severity....

For the third year in a row, the Hideout in Noble Square will partner with the Onion's The A.V. Club to produce a music festival. This year the fest will take place Sept. 5-6. It usually brings the best acts in folk, indie rock and whatever the hell it is the Archers of Loaf do (they played the fest in 2011). After lineups that featured the likes of Neko Case, Mavis Staples, The Hold Steady and Young The Giant, anticipation for this year's lineup will likely reach fever pitch just before it is announced May 28. The unofficial theme of Chromeo's sold out show Monday at Lincoln Hall was clearly, "Express yourself!" Fans danced and clapped without pause or reservation, and an (overly) affectionate couple in the front row couldn't keep their hands off of each other. Yet while the place was packed, the vibe was more intimate than the band expected. "We haven't played a room this small in a while," singer/guitarist Dave 1 (real name: David Macklovitch) said between songs. "It's crazy; I can see all of you!"

*** (out of four) They say everyone has their price. Craig's (Chicago native Pat Healy) appears to be $500. That's what it takes for him to participate in a game orchestrated by wealthy strangers Colin (David Koechner) and Violet (Sara Paxton), who kick things off with small challenges. Get that girl to slap you for $50. Smack that stripper's behind for $200. Craig passes; his old pal Vince (an unrecognizable Ethan Embry of “Can't Hardly Wait”) jumps at the chance. You know what would have been better than Connecticut winning the NCAA tournament the other night? It would have been better - and I say this as a college basketball fan - if Florida, Wisconsin, UConn and Kentucky had taken to the middle of the court Saturday, sat down and refused to play in solidarity with the Northwestern football team's fight to unionize. There was a rumor a few years back that a highly ranked college hoops power was planning to do just this until they got upset in an early round.

Welcome to fall, hot stuffs! It's that time again, time for pumpkin spice lattes, the appearance of excessively early Christmas decorations and another round of quick 'n' dirty sex advice , because though the days may be long, our attention spans are short.
