"For New Year's Eve, it is fun to get a new dress, something that's really flashy, but how many times are you going to wear that dress again?" said Jenna Zielbauer, owner of Bucktown women's boutique Von Z (1872 N. Damen Ave. 1N 872-206-5954). "Probably never, and it's probably going to be really expensive. " So when we asked Zielbauer to put together a countdown-ready look with items from her shop, she kept a few key things in mind. "The biggest thing for me is [to] pick an outfit that you're comfortable in. You don't want to be in a dress that's too tight, too short, 'cause that is going...

Clinton Kelly has fashioned time to fit him. Between cooking up commentary on the ABC daytime show "The Chew" and advising people "What Not To Wear" on the TLC mainstay, the style guru is partnering with Canadian tailoring company Stitch It to launch Perfect Fit By Clinton Kelly.   The newly branded shop opens its doors in the Orland Square Mall in Orland Park on Friday and promises to help guys in need find just the right look and feel to form an unforgettable outfit.   Kelly, a former Northwestern graduate student, is more than happy to school scruffy Chicago guys on the...

Strap in, squirrelfriends, because "RuPaul's Drag Race" is back and Chicago has three queens to scream for all season long. (By the way, this entire recap is one long spoiler. Consider yourself alerted.) We start the first episode with introductions to the queens about to compete in the world's best reality show. First up is Willam, who I like despite her not being from Chicago or spelling her name correctly. As soon as she sees dress forms for bigger girls, she says, "I hope they don't have diabetes!"

Lakeview late-night pizza joint Pie Hole may be branching out to a second location in Uptown, according the restaurant's owner. Doug Brandt said the new spot would be near Clark and Argyle streets and would allow him to prep food in one location, increasing space in the Pie Hole at 3477 N. Broadway. "The location we're in now is a little cramped," Brandt said. "In the back of my mind, I've been looking around for the opportunity. " Brandt said he has set up an account through LendSquare , a microloan web site, to...

Local look: Langford Market 621 W. Diversey Ave. 773-880-3191 From sweeping skirts to feminine patterned dresses, Langford Market is geared toward ladies looking for comfortable clothes with personality. This Texas-based store is already making waves in Chicago with two new north side stores that opened last year. I visited their Diversey store in Lincoln Park, which boasts colorful clothes, handbags and unique accessories for ladies looking for a fashion-forward outfit.

The silver lining of a down year for Lolla (Aug. 2-4) is fewer tough decisions. When the schedule's stacked, there are a lot more conflicts between great artists that either require your willingness to sprint across Grant Park at 80 m.p.h. or miss someone entirely. Still, there are a few bummers in the 2013 Lolla sked, announced Tuesday. Here are some thinkers with my suggestions. Fri. Queens of the Stone Age (6:15 p.m.-7:30 p.m.) vs. Chance the Rapper (6:50 p.m.-7:30 p.m.)

***1/2 (out of 4) Having limited exposure to previous work from Fun (an indie super-group comprising members of the Format, Anathallo and Steel Train), I showed up to the New York outfit's sophomore full-length merely expecting some fun indie pop. Receiving stadium-ready songs like “We Are Young” (featuring Janelle Monae) and “One Foot,” both songs either currently or soon to be invading every commercial in the known universe, was a kick to the gut I didn't mind one bit. The title track has lush vocals from Nate Ruess and guitar play that recalls Paul...
