There's no question that Chicago is a big burger town, but the scene just got a major boost with four new burger joints firing up their grills. We took an early look to see how they're stacking up. The Burger Point 1900 S. State St. 312-842-1900 Best for: South Loopers looking for a closer option than Epic Burger. It's not necessarily worth a trip unless you're in the neighborhood. Who's there: Condo owners from the building upstairs. Tasting notes: Though we weren't asked how we'd like our patty cooked (it arrived medium well)

Burger review: Chef's Burger Bistro 164 E. Grand Ave. 312-374-3092 Rating: 2 (out of four) I, the Great Burgerelli, have eaten burgers here, there and everywhere. I have eaten them in the finest of restaurants, in the northern woods of Wisconsin and from a Styrofoam box sitting on the hood of my ketchup-red 1960 Alfa Romeo Spider. But until my visit to Chef's Burger Bistro in Streeterville, I had never had a burger presided over by a certified master chef. To earn that honor, chef/partner Edward Leonard endured a grueling ten-day cooking trial demonstrating his proficiency across...

Two burger chains are making the commute from the suburbs into Chicago city to beef up the city's burger options. Meatheads has eight locations in Illinois, including restaurants in Northbrook, Naperville and Schaumburg, and is working on opening a spot in Roscoe Village at 3322 N. Western Ave. in mid-September. Founder Tom Jednorowicz is a franchising pro, having worked as chief development officer of Potbelly in Chicago. He said he's always intended to bring the concept to the city, but had a hard time finding a location with enough space and parking to make it...

Marcel Somfelean, owner of former West Loop restaurant Pasha, loves Kuma's Corner, but doesn't care for the heaping serving of noise he gets while dining there. He's hoping to appeal to others who share that feeling with Buzz - Burgers, Barrels & Beer, which opened in North Center on Monday. "There are lots of places for burgers," Somfelean said. "We try to go high-end, sophisticated, but at the same time reasonably priced. " The restaurant uses grass-fed beef sourced from farms in Missouri and Wisconsin and buns from Highland Baking Co. in suburban Northbrook.

Burger review: Meatheads 3304 N. Western Ave. 773-525-5300 Rating: 2.5 (out of 4) The Great Burgerelli welcomes correspondence, and as a result, the letters I receive from fellow burger lovers are plentiful indeed. One dear burger fan implored me to visit one of the many locations of Meatheads Burgers & Fries - in Northbrook, Naperville or perhaps Schaumburg, the storied home of Legoland and Ikea. The trouble is, I simply do not often find myself in these far-flung suburban municipalities; there are just too many burger adventures demanding my attention within the city of Chicago proper.

It appears that the union of geeky movies with burger chains is still going strong these days. Remember when you could buy Star Wars tumbler glasses at that particularly royal fast food burger joint? I sure miss those. Well, while they aren't offering collectible kitchenware, the folks at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers have put a new spin on the promotional burger tie-in. They're offering free tickets, a shot at a trip to Japan, and burgers inspired by "The Wolverine", the new X-Men spin-off...

There is something about White Sox opening day each year that leaves me in complete Soxtasy, a made-up word in Soxman's dictionary used to describe the sense of anticipation, elation and renewed proclamation of undying loyalty to the team I love. Anticipation in knowing that the first snap of Chris Sale's fastball, swing (or swing and miss) by Adam Dunn or put-out by Tyler Flowers forecasts what Sox fans can expect to see over the 161 games that follow. Anticipation over seeing what's new at U.S. Cellular Field teases my imagination while putting my salivary glands into...
