What does it take to be a Matador - besides baring and shaking your big belly? Everette Michael Jackson, a Matador since 2009, explains five must-haves for members of the Bulls dance group. 1. Practice: During the season, the guys rehearse four hours a week across two days. 2. Fearlessness: You can never hold back when performing in front of 20,000 people at a game. "You have to have nerves of steel," Jackson said. 3. Quick thinking: A Matador has "to be able to freestyle in the case of a music malfunction or another disaster," Jackson said.

In Chicago, a Blackhawks playoff game is must-see TV. If you can't get tickets to the game, that is. With a 2-1 series lead, the Hawks return to action Friday in Minnesota and Sunday in Chicago. So what does it take to produce a three-hour NHL on NBC Sports broadcast? A lot more than three hours, for one thing. A roster of nearly 50 people chips in to cover the lengthy to-do list. The crew culls the plays of the game, cues replays, creates graphics, compiles stats, talks to the on-ice timeout coordinator about commercials, runs the audio board and decides which shots and angles of the 24...

** (out of four) You can't blame the gods for wanting to intervene in human affairs; the perfectly sculpted deities do nothing but sit around in the sky and watch the violent action on the ground. Zeus (Luke Evans), however, insists that law dictates the powerful folks upstairs must stay out of it unless the titans are unleashed, which assumedly happens right after the titans are remembered. Meanwhile, mortal men battle seemingly as a result of having absolutely nothing else to do. We can only wonder how much less fighting there would be if these warriors could just find some other...

* (out of four) Full disclosure: I am not a beautiful, lonely, middle-aged woman. Yet I can say with relative confidence that someone like the person described above (who also looked like Sharon Stone) might be more discriminating than hiring a gigolo who looks like John Turturro. As for the notion that Stone's character and her friend, played by Sofia Vergara, want to have a threesome with this guy -- which may be derailed by a ridiculous romance he develops with a widow (Vanessa Paradis)

In case you hadn't heard - since it's been all over upwards of one of the blogs on this site - I'm going to Icelandfor a while, and in trying to get an idea of what I want to see on my trip, I've decided some glaciers are a must. And lucky you, now you can prepare for a long blog post on glaciers! Hope you've got your seventh grade science class notes handy.  You figure that with any extended vacation, you gotta see some nature and shit. Nature and shit is the best, especially for city-dwellers, and especially for Chicagoans where if you want to actually get out and see anything decent you must...

**1/2 (out of four) Add “in space” to “Escape from New York” or “Con Air” and you pretty much get the gist of “Lockout,” an action movie with ambitions only of stupid fun and completely ridiculous, logic-bending action. The “fun” part comes and goes. Guy Pearce stars as Snow, a wrongly convicted ex-CIA operative in 2079 Washington, D.C. with a choice to make: Succumb to a 30-year sentence in an outer-space prison that freezes its inmates or sneak onto the maximum-security facility, which murderer and rapist inmates have recently overtaken, and save the...

I'm a dancer. I love to dance. I'm the guy Dane Cook jokes about who goes to the club to express himself through the art of dance. As a dancer, nothing diminishes my club experience like being the only guy on the dance floor. No, correction: Nothing brings me down more than navigating pillars of men standing on the dance floor. I have to give the pillars a little credit, though, for actually making it out to the dance floor. Most of the time, the guys are standing around the periphery watching.

When sports and social justice issues intersect, it takes a while to come to a consensus. Which is too bad, really. An audio recording of L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling allegedly making racially charged comments about African-Americans to his then-girlfriend surfaced Saturday.  The players on the team--all but two of whom are African-American, are understandably upset. The Clippers wore their warmups inside out to hide the team logo before Sunday's game against Golden State, and they later threw them in a pile at center court in protest.

CTA riders enrolled in a pre-tax transit program who haven't switched to Ventra must transition by Friday, the CTA said Wednesday. Starting Friday, Chicago Card Plus users who pay for transit using pre-tax funds through their employee benefits will have to use their Ventra cards to access these funds. These programs allow riders to pay for their commute using pre-tax income. "While most employees have made the switch to the modern, account-based fare payment system, the CTA wants to remind the small number of employees still using their...

Now that the Sochi Olympics are done, the Blackhawks get back to the business of keeping the Stanley Cup local. Depending on how you look at it, the Olympics were a success or a colossal failure. Team Canada did what Team Canada does, while Team USA failed in miserable fashion. Closer to home, here are five things the Blackhawks can do to repeat as Stanley Cup champs. Crush all Olympic hangover talk If the Blackhawks stumble post-Olympics, the fans and media will say NHL players don't belong in the Games because an...

It's one hot political statement.  A Norwegian sports company has released "Airport Love," a sexy advertisement that looks to be a bold statement against Russia's strict anti-gay legislation, which has become a hot button issue during the Sochi Olympics.  In it, male athletes eye an attractive woman as she walks through an airport, each doing their best sports feats to impress her. She's got a different goal in mind, however, as she meets...

Of all the world's most evil empires - North Korea, Newscorp, Kardashianstan - Subway may be the most insidious. I have a 24-hour Subway by my place that for whatever reason I physiologically cannot resist getting a sandwich from after I've imbibed any amount of alcohol. Let's take the other night as an example. My pal Bojo came back from overseas, so he, some additional friends, and I met up in Old Town to drink beers and catch up (This involved Bojo doing his impression of me, which went like, “Hey, would you rather die in some really horrific way or look at cute girls and stuff?

During the Stanley Cup playoffs, you can't afford to miss a game. As the Vancouver Canucks consistently prove, a team can have one bad week and it's tee time instead of hockey time. Every single second of Twitter-mashing, mouth-frothing, under-your-breathing-swearing-because-kids-are-around action is precious. So what do you do, Blackhawks fan, on the nights when your team isn't playing? For the greater good this year, you need to suck it up and root for St. Louis, Detroit and Raffi Torres (San Jose)
