Though South Side native rapper Common currently faces foreclosure on his Chicago condo , obviously the hometown favorite isn't in danger of not having somewhere to stay. Common will be in town Thursday to host an event benefitting those who aren't as fortunate. At 9 p.m. the man behind classic albums such as "Like Water for Chocolate" and "Be" (and films including"Just Wright"and "Date Night") will perform at Metro, with ticket sales going to the Night Ministry, a local organization that, according to a press release, "works to provide housing, healthcare and human connection to members...

Yes, frontman Justin Hawkins did a spread-eagle handstand during the Darkness' sold-out show Saturday at Metro. Yes, he climbed up on the speakers and dove into the crowd, like a rock god unfrozen from 30 years ago. Yet anyone who saw the English glam-rockers as a joke needed only to hear Hawkins belt out “Holding My Own” alone with his guitar to hear that Hawkins' voice is the truth, and so is the band. This group, largely dormant in the years since 2005's “One Way Ticket to Hell … and Back” failed to replicate the success of 2003's “Permission to Land,” has...

When Metro talent buyer Joe Carsello sees a show at his workplace, he likes to watch from a few favorite spots. If he's not standing near the soundboard, you'll find the Little Village resident at the front-of-house booth. “Not because I don't like being near people,” Carsello explained. “It's where the room sounds the best. If I can't be there, the balcony is a great place to watch shows, too.” The 32-year-old has worked in nearly every nook and cranny of the music industry.

The Postelles' self-titled full-length debut didn't really catch on last year, but I hope they still get a chance. I've been a fan of the New York retro-poppers since their 2008 set at Lolla, and just-released track "Running Red Lights" continues singer Daniel Balk's affection for songs about taking things farther than you know they should go. As always, it's really catchy and pretty sweet-the sort of thing you feel like you could recommend to...

The rapper Curren$y tends to focus on a fairly specific set of lyrical topics -- planes, fast cars, hanging out at home, and a certain natural supplement that, when smoked, makes those planes fly a little higher, those cars drive a little slower, and that hanging out at home feel just a little chiller. But when Curren$y (alternately self-designated as Spitta) raps "Xbox Web Browser/download an updated NBA roster/play an 82 game season/condo full of snacks/Spitta not leaving," he makes us wonder, above all, just what types of snacks a day at his condo might entail.
