The three sisters of Haim didn't release any music until they'd been a band for five years, spending much of that time honing what's now a must-see live show. On “Falling,” the first track on the group's consistently catchy debut album “Days Are Gone,” they sing, “No one's ever enough.” Conclusion: These are women with great expectations. “We definitely do have high standards, and we're definitely not afraid to say no,” says Alana Haim by phone with a laugh. “I think before the record came out a lot of people around us were kind of pressuring us to turn it in,...

The big-name acts at Lollapalooza always boast large personalities. For Lolla 2012, however, "big" would be an understatement. The lineup announced early Wednesday for the Aug. 3-5 fest in Grant Park includes former bat eater and permanent prince of darkness Ozzy Osbourne fronting Black Sabbath; Florence Welch, who seems to harness mystical spells while turning every Florence and the Machine song into a soaring anthem; and the howling Cedric Bixler-Zavala...

The first time Temples visited Chicago in November 2013, the city's red-meat-and-potatoes reputation made the British psych-rock crew a bit anxious.   “We thought it would be really hard to find food without meat in it,” said singer/guitarist/vegetarian James Bagshaw. “I don't know why we thought that. There was actually really great vegan and vegetarian food.”   It's a good thing, too. Between Temples' April 26 concert at Lincoln Hall and its scheduled appearance at this summer's Lollapalooza, the band, which has been championed by everyone from Oasis' Noel Gallagher to ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr since...

Tired after Lolla? At least you didn't spend the night in jail. Among Lollapalooza's Sunday attendees: a handful of undercover police officers, at least nine fest-goers who got caught buying or selling drugs, and a lot of tie-dyed clothes that made their way to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse by Monday afternoon. The cast of alleged drug-offenders was diverse, according to court records. There was the 17-year-old high school student from the North Side, who officers caught with a mix of marijuana joints, Ecstasy pills, and LSD tablets wrapped in...
