"Never think that I'm not from Chicago for one second. " In the six months since Kanye West released his sixth album, "Yeezus," he has, of course, said a lot. Yet the above affirmation, said rather pointedly to Jimmy Kimmel in October , stands out among all of the rapper's other quotables. Why? Because a growing movement of locals have shunned the Chicago-raised icon, and the question remains: Is Kanye still a Chicagoan till' Chicago ends? Some would argue no -- he doesn't possess a full-time residence here, rarely comes to town and flaunts an image-conscious outlook far more associated with...

Kanye West debuted a new song "God Level" via a commercial that aired Saturday during the UEFA Champions League final.  The commercial - and new song - kicked off Adidas' "The Dream: All In Or Nothing" Wolrd Cup ad campaign. Now that Kanye West is #TeamAdidas (He signed a sponsorship deal with the brand after leaving Nike at the end of 2013.), we've been wondering when we were going to see his first collab with the brand. Turns out, it's a new song produced by West and Hudson Mohawke (TNGHT)

***1/2 (out of four)   When was the last time you saw Kanye West smile? He was once a schoolyard dick-joke rapper; now he's “all black everything,” every day, constantly dressed for a funeral and fighting the paparazzi with Kim Kardashian on his arm. In a recent New York Times interview, he said, “Maybe 90 percent of the time it looks like I'm not having a good time.”   On 90 percent of “Yeezus,” Kanye's sixth studio album,...

The Internet is a wonderful thing.  Today's proof: a random photo, posted to Reddit , of Yeezus himself in a zip-line business office in Mexico. Why is it special? Because it depicts an extremely sad -- or maybe just pooped -- picture of Kanye West sitting in the background as his wife Kim Kardashian poses with another man. Kim, at least, looks like she's having a great time.  There's little more context than that, other than the Reddit user who posted it says he doubts it's ever made it's way online, and the photo's timestamp says it was taken Dec. 10, 2013.  It's only a...

Kanye West returns to "The Cleveland Show" Nov. 4 as Kenny West, a rapper who has fallen out of favor with the secret society known as Hip-Hop Illuminati. There's no denying that Kanye West has become synonymous with arrogance. Compared with his current, astronomical self-image, though, the Chicago-raised rap/fashion icon's musical beginnings were humble. People actually liked him because of that underdog status. Once upon a time (2004), "College Dropout" came out of nowhere. Progressively, Yeezy's bellowing ego has scorched the world, and with his sixth solo album, "Yeezus," set to drop Tuesday, West again has been hoarding Earth's oxygen with over-the-top interviews containing almost...

New Slaves: ***1/2 (out of 4) Black Skinhead: *** (out of 4) Kanye West's face appeared on 66 buildings across the country last Friday to premiere his new song, "New Slaves. " Just days earlier, Kanye had endearingly declared himself "not a celebrity" at a New York show--now he was stopping traffic while 20-foot-tall projections of his mug spit lyrics of equal proportion: "My mama was raised in the era when/clean water was only served to the fairer skinned/Doing clothes you would have thought I had help/but they wasn't...

There was a time when you couldn't walk past a news stand without tripping over a new Kanye West interview. Times have changed. News stands have basically ceased to exist, and Yeezy's a little more judicious about who gets to publish his thoughts. (Also, Twitter exists.) After reading his mind-blowingly wacky interview with the New York Times, we compiled this chart of his thoughts at various points in his illustrious career. ON TAYLOR SWIFT September 2010, via Twitter I'm sorry, Taylor.

Kanye West faced Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday and he was, um, genius? The rapper appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to address the feud he and the late-night host have been embroiled in ever since West went on Twitter last month to criticize Kimmel after the latter spoofed a recent interview with BBC Radio 1 in which West called himself the biggest rock star in the world. As you can see in the clip above, West still has a high opinion of himself. "I'm a creative genius," he told Kimmel, "and there's no other...

Based on the concert footage-heavy trailer Kanye West previously released for his "Yeezus" movie, it seemed like a poster for the film would be a photo of, you know, Kanye. There would be no reason to think he'd have a problem with that. Apparently not. Today on Instagram Mazdack Rassi of Milk Studios released the first poster for "Yeezus" (seen above), which, as you can see, has a few spots of blood and nothing more. People who haven't seen the trailer ( click here to watch it on the Chicago-raised rapper's site)

Rap artist Common announced Wednesday that his Common Ground Foundation will partner with youth arts organization Donda's House Inc. and the Chicago Urban League to develop a music festival and an initiative to create 20,000 jobs for Chicago's black teens. The three organizations developed the initiative to help lower the Chicago-area jobless rate among black males, representatives said. A recent study conducted by the Chicago Alternative Schools Network found that 92 percent of black males aged 16-19 were jobless in...

Friday afternoon is supposed to be the holiest time of the workweek, the express ramp to another wonderful weekend of not having to wear pants. Unfortunately, last week was spoiled by the Internet's ridiculous response to the new Vogue cover featuring Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The cover, a mock wedding photo taken by Annie Leibovitz, sparked outrage from Beverly Hills to Berlin, from bloggers to Buffy herself. (Sarah Michelle Gellar tweeted that she was going to cancel her subscription to the magazine.

West joined Seth Meyers on his second night at the desk and gave a fairly entertaining interview, touching on topics ranging to the mask he wears during his "Yeezus" shows, fatherhood, Quentin Tarantino, a weird point about nudity on European TV and an old SNL sketch in which Kanye crashes the awards presentation at a weird place. All hail the new monarch? On Friday, Lily Allen announced on "The Graham Norton Show" that she was going for broke and naming her next album "Sheezus. " (You know, like the Kanye album? Get it? GET IT? ) Instead of rolling our eyes and calling this the hackiest move since "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk," we'd like to offer some alternate she-flavored album titles. (Wow, that sounds, um, intimate. After both attending Wednesday's Kanye West show at United Center, we decided to do a written version of "Good or what?" Here's the email conversation that ensued. MP: Ernest, I feel like every show I attend lately has a Nickelodeon “GUTS”-style mountain and women in body stockings elevating the artist toward the sky. I mean, do something different, people.   OK, no. Wednesday's Kanye West show at United Center was unusual, strange, fun, unsettling, captivating and challenging all at once.

Let's not beat around the bush here. Look at the below photo ( posted to Reddit ) and tell me that woman's knee doesn't look like Kanye West.     Holy freaking shit, people.  I heard a lady over in the Wild 100's saw him in a snow drift I heard a dude down in Harvey saw him in a gyro burger.
