Jay-Z and Kanye aren't the sort of guys that back down from a challenge. Which is why we didn't ask for their opinion when facing them off. ALBUMS Jay-Z: His platinum-selling 1996 debut "Reasonable Doubt" quickly established him as an artist to watch and you'd struggle to find a hip-hop fan who doesn't consider "The Blueprint" a classic. If Jay-Z and Kanye West didn't think their collaboration was an event, they wouldn't have called it "Watch the Throne. " In terms of modesty, these guys exist somewhere between "none" and "LeBron James. " Of course, public response certainly has matched the project's self-satisfaction. Bloggers breathlessly dissected early singles "H.A.M. Kanye West Rap shows used to be pretty dull from a sheer spectacle perspective. You'd have the MC, his hype man, his DJ, various crew members, bodyguards and the occasional groupie (or six). Kanye West didn't re-invent what a rap show could be, but he sure did put his stamp on it. The second he got the level of fame he desired, he put on a certified rock show (The Glow in the...

This weekend the scene at Soldier Field won't be about da Bears but da bass, and the drops won't be coming in the form of fumbles or incomplete passes. Instead, fans of electronic dance music (EDM) will be the ones touching down in the stadium for Chicago's new Spring Awakening Festival. Spring Awakening bills itself as “Chicago's first all-dance music festival,” a statement of purpose that differentiates the fest from the city's other electronic-heavy fests like Lollapalooza's Perry's stage or North Coast Music Festival.
