Guess what day it is! Guess what day it is! Training Camp Day is here. First day of practice-open to the public at 9 a.m. Denim shorts and tube socks are both ready! Congratulations, you survived the summer and even saw the start of the Junior Lake Era! You're a winner! Before that, we may have to say goodbye to Alfonso Soriano, who has had some nice years with the Cubs. Though I have enjoyed his offense, the back-loaded, Jim Hendry desperation-size contract always bugged me. It's as if Hendry threw up his arms and said, "This is it folks.

We get it, you've been cozied up in a Blackhawks blanket for two months. It's been awesome, hasn't it? Well, now the dog days of summer are here. But while the Hawks were busy capturing the coolest trophy in sports, other Chicago teams were making headlines, too. Some were even intentional. Each team has given fans reasons to wake up and pay attention - or to hit snooze.   CUBS Wake up: Fans don't have to worry about Carlos Marmol blowing games anymore; they designated him for assignment.

It appears we have a job opening in Chicago. With Brian Urlacher's retirement official, I am afraid that we need to officially post "the guy who owns Chicago" job on Craigslist. This is a tough one, because we can't just pass it out to anyone. Past holders of this position have included: Michael Jordan, Walter Payton, Mike Ditka, Ryne Sandberg and Urlacher. Take a look around, I'm seeing zero candidates. It's a complex screening process. But Urlacher had it. Tough, loyal, played a position adored by Chicagoans.

Three linebackers, two offensive linemen and a wide receiver walk into Halas Hall … hoping to change the course of football history in Chicago. The Bears' newest draft class arrives with lofty expectations and daunting challenges at each position. It is composed of three guys (linebackers Jon Bostic, Khaseem Greene and Cornelius Washington) hoping to make fans forget about the franchise icon they're trying to replace; two (offensive linemen Kyle Long and Jordan Mills) who are hoping to prevent Kristin Cavallari from becoming a widow before her 30th birthday once she and Jay Cutler make it down the aisle; and another (wide receiver Marquess Wilson)

Derrick Rose and Jay Cutler are so different that it's actually funny to me to imagine them together. I imagine their conversation as follows: Derrick: "Hi. " Jay: "Sup. " (Jay makes uncomfortable sad faces while Derrick stares at the ceiling eating Skittles). End of conversation. But their knee injuries have given them something in common. While Cutler's decision to not re-enter the NFC championship game wasn't up to him, Rose has been reportedly cleared to return a month ago and faces no greater risk for re-injury than at any point in his career.

It's the middle of winter, boredom kicks in, and I find myself reading silly things like Sports Illustrated's 50 most powerful people in sports. Normally I ignore it, except I noticed … no Chicago folks on the list. OK, Michael Jordan came in at 50 but come on, he's retired. That was a gift. Also the commissioner of the Big Ten (12?) was on there, but he doesn't affect our lives like that. Question, then. In a city where all the franchises have been around since the start of their respective leagues, how come we don't have dominating ownership groups?

Ever since Kristin Cavallari told eonline.com that Jay Cutler proposed to the reality TV star via text message and later mailed her the engagement ring, we've been dying to know what those texts said. Somehow (OK, we're making it up) RedEye managed to get ahold of them. In honor of Valentine's Day, here's the greatest love story never told. Jay: sup baby. Whatcha doing? Kristin: OMG I'm at the airport headed back to Cali. U? Jay: Oh, just practicing, trying to turn Devin Hester into a real receiver.

Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari's very long engagement (including the breakup, then re-engagement) looks like it will have its happily-ever-after soon. According to eonline.com, the Chicago power couple already have a date set, though they're keeping the details quiet. Cavallari talked to Giuliana Rancic for an E! special that will air March 10. In the same interview, the former reality star said the second time the Bears quarterback "proposed," he sent her the ring in the mail.
