If you're reading this on the toilet, do not feel ashamed.  A new (albeit sponsored) study suggests the average American spends 16-minutes daily on an electronic device while on the porcelain throne. Yes, daily. And the things people do during those long trips to the bathroom are kind of gross when you think about it. The study, from bathroom product maker Lysol, was conducted while researching a new product, according to a press release. Here are the results, with commentary in parenthesis:  57 percent read a tweet, Instagram feed, or Facebook update.

A few weeks ago I was asked to appear on a couple podcasts that originate in Chicago. Due to a bit of absent-mindedness on my part, I ended up doing both podcasts on the same day. It made for quite the experience! First up, I sat down with the gals of the Your Chicago Podcast . If you've never listened to their podcast before, you're going to get a kick out of listening to Arden Joy and Stefania Rudd , the two hosts. Both these ladies are fun and geeky, with a real passion for all things Chicago.

It used to be we all had to wait for our high school reunions to make people jealous. And even then there was so much pressure. You wouldn't dare bother showing up without being skinny, dating (or hiring) a sexy boyfriend and having created Post-Its. Thank God they invented Instagram. Now you don't need anything but an iPhone to make others feel bad about their own lives - and you can do so all year round . Here are some tips on how to make your acquaintances want to give up and move somewhere Verizon doesn't service.

Hi Anna, I started dating this guy, and though we weren't "official," it bothered me that one of his female Instagram followers was obsessed with him. He won't block her either; am I wrong to be upset?--Social Media Ruins Lives A friend and I were talking not too long ago about how Instagram is the least annoying social media site. Facebook is overrun with racist comments and pictures of your friends' fetuses.

I first discovered digital artist Calum Jones while scrolling through my Instagram feed. As I'm always on the lookout for cool Star Wars -related images, Jones' gallery tickled me with the way he took SW action figures and re-created scenes from the movies. In some cases, he went "off the screen" and depicted events that never took place in the films, and yet one could imagine happening. After "liking" most of his photos, I reached out to the London-based artist to ask him some questions.

An iPhone will function after being splashed with half a shot of Four Roses Small Batch bourbon, but not after swimming in a pool of Three Floyds Alpha King pale ale. How do I know this? Because I was a compulsive phone-on-bar person. Drink, coaster, phone: It was my holy trinity. What if I got a text? What if someone favorited my Tweet about my sad desk lunch? My phone could be ALL the way in my purse - virtually miles away! But I'm changing my ways. Not only am I sick of a sticky phone case, but tethering my phone to my drink was rude to the friends I was out with.

Last week I got to talk about the state of superheroes in television with the crew of the Nerdlunch Podcast. I first got to know them when Carlin "CT" Trammell was one of the Hottest Geek Guys of Winter in 2012. It's always fun to talk to guys who are just as geeky as you are, although I think I may have gone a bit out of their depth when I started referencing shows like M.A.N.T.I.S. and "Bigfoot and Wild Boy. "  Give it a listen and let me know what you thought!
