Rampant consumerism? Check. The same 12 Christmas songs performed 4,300 ways on the radio? You betcha. It's holiday time again, people! With all the yuletide (second only to "delish" as the worst word ever created) cheer comes holiday party season. My inbox is bursting with people asking for Wingman tips for seasonal party domination during this, the season of raging, and like your inappropriate gymnastics coach, I've got your back. ***1/2 (out of four) So beautiful it belongs on the Maxim Hot 100, “Prometheus” arrives in the wake of an awesome-looking trailer to disintegrate the existence of the “Alien vs. Predator” movies and revive the world's excitement about cinema's second-most famous E.T. Also helpful: Ridley Scott (“Blade Runner”) returns to the director's chair, where he was when the “Alien” series began in 1979. Through a series of inspirational Pinterest quotes and Upworthy videos, the Internet has also given many of us the drive to be epic. Each day we are reminded to live deliberately, eat like we give a damn and, most importantly, be amazing.

My friend Phil and I both belong to the cult of Bill Simmons, the sportswriter, mostly because he's one of the few sportswriters out there who shares our slavish devotion to NBA basketball as the world's crowning athletic league achievement. This means listening to “BS Report” podcasts religiously and getting through about 2/3 of every column (Simmons' columns regularly run upwards of 7,000 words, which means if you want to read each and every one to completion you have to give up either laundry, sex, or watching the actual...

Twenty-one-year-old political science major and Student Government Association Senator Jessica Thiesen said it was "really upsetting" to receive an e-mail from the Roosevelt University on Nov. 30 notifying her that a student had been sexually assaulted in the stairwell of the school's Wabash Building, a residence hall five blocks away from her dorm. "It was weird that it was just this matter-of-fact statement that we got in our inbox like, ‘Hey, by the way, someone was sexually assaulted, stay out of your stairwell!
