Chicago on Thursday logged its 100th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 23-year-old man was shot to death Thursday in the 300 block of East Kensington Avenue in West Pullman, the Tribune reported. For the last eight years, except for last year, Chicago has logged its 100th homicide of the year in April. Chicago reached this mark on March 20 last year. Homicides are down 39 percent year-to-date compared to the same period in 2012 and down 6 percent compared to 2011.

Austin and East Garfield Park each recorded two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Austin, a 33-year-old man was fatally shot Monday in the 200 block of North Laramie Avenue, police said. That same day, a 25-year-old man was shot to death in the 5400 block of West Haddon Avenue, according to officials. Austin has logged 14 homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 31 homicides last year, down from 37 killings in 2012, RedEye determined.

Austin on Friday saw its second homicide of the month and sixth homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 24-year-old man was shot to death in the 400 block of North Lockwood Avenue, police said. Austin, the city's largest community area, saw 30 homicides last year, RedEye data shows. Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Chicago Lawn, Greater Grand Crossing, Humboldt Park, the Lower West Side and South Chicago, police data shows.

Austin recorded two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. On Saturday, a 32-year-old man was shot to death in the 200 block of North Pine Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 38-year-old man was beaten to death in the 5100 block of West Concord Place, according to officials. Austin has logged 12 homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 31 homicides last year, down from 37 killings in 2012, RedEye determined.

Morgan Park and South Shore each recorded a homicide in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Morgan Park, a 48-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday in the 11400 block of South Rockwell Street, police said. Morgan Park has logged one homicide so far this year. The Southwest Side community area recorded four homicides last year, according to RedEye data. In South Shore, a 26-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday in the 7800 block of South Muskegon Avenue, officials said.

Senior citizens rarely tend to be homicide victims in Chicago though in March, three of the 24 victims were more than 62 years old, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. This year, four of the 69 homicide victims &m-;nearly 6 percent of victims &m-; were older than 62, according to RedEye data as of Thursday afternoon. Last year, 10 out 435 victims were senior citizens, composing 2 percent of victims, RedEye determined. Two male teenagers were shot and killed in separate incidents in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot Saturday in the 6200 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue in Woodlawn, police said. Three days before, a 19-year-old man was shot to death in the 6400 block of South Campbell Avenue in Chicago Lawn, according to officials. Four of the seven homicide victims so far this year were teenagers, RedEye determined as of Wednesday afternoon.

Chicago today logged its 350th homicide of the year, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. Two men were shot to death today in the 10500 block of South Lafayette Avenue in Roseland, the Tribune reported. Chicago reached 350 homicides in 2012 on Aug. 21 and in 2011 on Oct. 19, RedEye determined. Homicides are down 18 percent versus 2012 and up 3 percent versus 2011, according to RedEye data.

In the last week there were two days in which more than one homicide were recorded. The city hasn't seen a calendar date with more than one homicide since mid-March, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. Two Chicago community areas -- Calumet Heights and Morgan Park -- logged their first homicide of 2014 last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Calumet Heights, a 22-year-old man was shot to death Friday in the 9300 block of South Stony Island Avenue, police said. Calumet Heights logged one homicide last year, down from six killings in 2012, RedEye determined. In Morgan Park, a 37-year-old woman was fatally shot Friday in the 11400 block of South Aberdeen Street, according to officials.

Chatham logged four homicides in the last week, a RedEye review of preliminary police data found. An 18-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday in the 7900 block of South Vincennes Avenue, police said. Two days earlier, a 29-year-old man was shot to death in the 900 block of East 81st Street, according to officials. On Saturday, a 55-year-old man was stabbed to death in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue, police said. Two days earlier, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in the 8100 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, according to officials.

Three women were shot to death in separate incidents in Chicago in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. On Monday, a 14-year-old girl was shot to death in the 900 block of West Garfield Boulevard in New City, police said. One day earlier, a 21-year-old woman was fatally shot in the 3600 block of West Fullerton Avenue in Logan Square, according to officials. On Friday, a 32-year-old woman was shot to death in the 11500 block of South Laflin Street in West Pullman, police said.

South Chicago and South Lawndale each saw double homicides in the last week, according to police information. In South Lawndale, two men, ages 19 and 32, were shot to death Sunday in the 2800 block of South Sawyer Avenue, police said. South Lawndale has logged five homicides so far this year. The West Side community area recorded 10 killings last year, down from 13 in 2012, RedEye determined. In South Chicago, two men, ages 16 and 18, were fatally shot Saturday in the 8200 block of South Houston Avenue, according to officials.
