Just when you thought it was safe to go out to the theater, these blood-curdling comedies and dramas of doom have emerged from the grave - or, technically, from behind the curtain - to heat up your Halloween season. "Musical of the Living Dead" Bloody tap dancing, power ballads and rapping zombies appear in The Cowardly Scarecrow Theatre Company's parody of horror flicks and musical theater, during which a cast of 10 attempts to escape a ravenous horde of brain-eaters as buckets of blood - 10 gallons per show, to be exact - splatter the actors and the front row of the audience.

Once in a while, a movie slips under your radar. For about, oh, 20 years. In 'Big-screen blind spot: Halloween,' we sit down with those 'classic' horror movies everybody but us has seen and give them the nostalgia critic treatment. Confession: Last year, RedEye staffers discussed their favorite scary moments from horror and Halloween movies. One in particular, starring Corbin Bernsen among others, generated some animated discussion in the newsroom. Until recently, I had never seen the 1995 horror anthology "Tales from the...

There's a line in Pulp Fiction where Samuel L. Jackson 's character Jules talks about how he doesn't get to eat cheeseburgers all that much because “my girlfriend is a vegetarian so that makes me a vegetarian.” Well, that same principal applies to Halloween when it comes to me and my dog Banky. Halloween is by far, my favorite holiday, so of course that makes it Banky's favorite holiday too. I would like to think that she rather enjoys it too, since whenever I take her trick-or-treating dressed in costume, the kids all want...

Lakeview's Real Kitchen created a culinary nightmare to-go for Halloween. In a tongue-in-cheek riff on the meticulously crafted menu at Grant Achatz's Alinea, Real Kitchen claims in a video posted Thursday to have its own enormously elaborate multiple course menu. "In the Chicago tradition this Halloween, we at Real Kitchen are dressing up as Alinea," the parody video's narration says. "We'll make sure your dinner will be like no other, with a weekly change up of 45-course meal packages.

In 'Big-screen blind spot,' we sit down with those 'classic' movies everybody but us has seen and give them the nostalgia critic treatment. Confession: I had never seen 1990's “Arachnophobia,” which arrived in theaters four months before “Home Alone” and thus made the escape of Buzz's tarantula completely innocuous by comparison. I only realize this now, of course; everyone has their thing that freaks them out, and since mine is big-ass spiders I didn't...

Since its 1990 inception, Redmoon's been known for breathtaking, large-scale spectacle performances - both outdoors in parks all over the city and indoors when the weather's cold. In March, Redmoon moved from West Town to its new headquarters in a massive Pilsen warehouse, and to celebrate both Halloween and the start of "indoor" season, they're throwing the third edition of "Boneshaker," their one-night-only performance-themed party. But even though festivities include nods to Halloween and Day of the Dead, don't expect zombies, witches or...

There's 5,000 pillows currently sitting in a parking lot near the Aragon, ready to start a fight. On Saturday, Swedish DJ duo Dada Life will use the Aragon in an effort to break the world record for the largest pillow fight in history at the beginning of their performance. Toby Benson, the group's manager, said organizing the Chicago pillow brawl was no easy task. “This weekend, on pretty much the eastern half of the country, you're not going to find this type of pillow we bought,” Benson said.

Halloween parties are arguably some of the best in Chicago. There are plenty of elements that make them great, but the air of mystery in not having to completely reveal your identity is pretty exciting. Much debauchery ensues. It might seem crazy, but some couples found love in the most hopeless of places, a Halloween party. When Gina Bangser, 32, walked into a mutual friend's Halloween party in 2009 in full Harley-Davidson gear, she likes to say her now-husband Marc “picked her right off the door.” “We just hit it off immediately,” Gina said.
