TV's most underrated current drama, "Southland" ( 9 p.m. Jan. 17, TNT; 4 stars ) launches a fourth season of LA.-based cop stories churning with chases, murders and a police station confrontation so violent and realistic you'll feel like you experienced it firsthand. The beauty of this series from Ann Biderman ("NYPD Blue"), Christopher Chulack ("Third Watch") and John Wells ("Shameless") is that no matter how electric the action is, "Southland" takes the time to powerfully reveal the lives and emotions of the LAPD officers...

Some of my fondest memories of my early single years (notice I said “early”) in Chicago have to do with the holidays, when my friends and I would get together and not only drink, but make Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Those get-togethers always were enjoyable and sometimes uncomfortable - I'm thinking specifically of the time I accidentally eavesdropped on some rather loud sex being had in the bedroom next to the pantry where I was trying to sleep. In the meantime, Prince gives RedEye an exclusive look behind the scenes her rehab. The past two weeks have been surreal. One moment I was in the game in Indianapolis trying to lead the Sky to our eighth win, and two days later I was coming out of a hospital with a screw in my foot to repair a Jones fracture.

If you compare working on a TV show to going to school, "Raising Hope" star Lucas Neff had a heck of a summer break. "It's a lot of sleep deprivation, but it's good," Neff told me during a phone conversation Sunday. "It's a lot of fun. " Over the summer the former Andersonville resident returned to Chicago to help stage the first live production of a play he wrote, "The Last Duck," with the Jackalope Theatre Company. ("It's my first award-losing play," he deadpanned after saying it was nominated for two Joseph Jefferson awards.)
