Michael Vick is turning heads lately, thanks to his (usually) outstanding play. He's also still a polarizing figure, thanks to his dogfighting conviction and the prison sentence that followed. Forbes.com reported Monday that Vick is the NFL's most disliked player, according to a poll by Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research. The website reports that 60 percent of those polled said they “dislike,” “dislike somewhat” or “dislike a lot” the Philadelphia quarterback. Joining Vick on the list is Jay Cutler (No. 5, 38 percent)

It wasn't supposed to be like this. They were not supposed to leave Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon on the losing end of a 10-3 game against the struggling Kansas City Chiefs. The Bears were not supposed to leave Soldier Field unsure if running back Matt Forte would play any time soon. They were not supposed to leave Soldier Field with a fan base questioning who should be playing quarterback next week at Denver. And they most certainly not supposed to leave Soldier Field looking like a team destined to be watching the playoffs instead of playing in them.

A cynic would describe Sunday's Bears game against Jacksonvile in two words: trap game. The symptoms are there: the Bears get hyped for a "Monday Night Football" road showdown, they drop 34 points on the NFL's top-ranked defense, then they go into Jacksonville and lay an egg. Maybe. Fortunately for the Bears, they're coached by Lovie Smith, who is 8-2 on Monday nights and 7-2 the game after. Let's look at some of Smith's finest moments on Mondays and the games that followed.   Oct. 16, 2006: Bears 24, Arizona 23 Oct. 29, 2006: Bears 41, San Francisco 10 ...

It's not just you - the Bears and Philadelphia really have played each other an awful lot despite being in different divisions. They've crossed paths in the regular season the past four seasons, and each game has been decided by five points or fewer. Sounds like a perfect recipe for a rivalry. As the Bears (4-3) and Eagles (3-4) prepare to bump heads again Monday, here's what their most recent meetings have brought to the table.   Nov. 28, 2010: Bears 31, Philadelphia 26 Key ingredient: Validation The Bears had their share of...

Entering the 2013 season, the Bears' Robbie Gould is the sixth-most accurate kicker in NFL history. Here are the field goals that stand out most. Jan. 14, 2007, vs. Seattle Gould tied this playoff game late in the fourth quarter with a 41-yard field goal, but it was his 49-yard game-winner in overtime that secured his place in Bears history. Both Gould and Patrick Mannelly rank this kick as his best. Feb. 4, 2007, vs. Indianapolis In Super Bowl XLI, Gould converted his only field goal attempt, a 44-yarder in the fourth quarter.

Orange you glad the Bears wore those jerseys Sunday? Ugh. Sorry. For the second time this season, the Bears donned their orange jerseys, and the results were about as good as they could have hoped. So, what how did orange help the Bears? Let us count the ways.   Orange Julius Bears defensive end Julius Peppers forces a Calvin "Megatron" Johnson fumble with a vicious pro wrestling-style clothesline on the Lions' first drive. Brian Urlacher recovers, and the Bears jump out to a 7-0 lead on a Matt Forte touchdown run four plays later.

Preseason football generally is about as riveting as watching paint dry. Yet on Saturday, I found myself glued to the final two minutes of the Bears' preseason contest as if it were the Super Bowl as a fellow Lake Zurich High School alum was making headlines. Meaningless football suddenly became metaphorical. Bears fourth-string quarterback Matt Blanchard grew up across town from me and graduated from the same bucolic suburban high school in 2007 as I had seven years prior.

Sometimes I wish I didn't know anything about football. Because if I didn't, I might have enjoyed Sunday's two-point disaster against Detroit. I might even be smiling now, just like the bartender who served me and my friends during the game. For instance, when Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall hooked up on the opening drive for three straight completions capped by a 32-yard pass and a 7-0 lead, the chipper bartender said, "We got a goal! Uh, a touchdown!" And then she laughed and said, "I don't watch a lot of sports.

Thanks to all who entered Volume 4 of RedEye's Bears Trivia Challenge! Here's the question again, followed by the answer: Question: What's the total length of field goals made by the Bears in the 2010 and 2011 seasons in nautical miles? Answer: We'll spare you the details of all Robbie Gould's field goals the past two seasons. Just know that the combined length in 2010 was 2,892 feet, and in 2011 it was 3,750 feet, or 6,642 feet total. Divide that by 6,076.12 (the number of feet in a nautical mile)

Sure, several key Bears were injured last week. But there were still upbeat entering Sunday. They simply had to deal with Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch and a Seattle team that had beaten them the past two regular-season meetings at Soldier Field. However, when the dust settled, the Seahawks emerged with a 23-17 overtime win, relegating the Bears to a first-place tie with Green Bay. Who played like a beast and who ended up a bust?   BEAST Sidney Rice The former Minnesota Viking hauled in one clutch catch after another, including the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
