Kermit, Miss Piggy and their Muppet friends return to the big screen Wednesday with "The Muppets," a new movie starring Amy Adams and Jason Segel. To gear up for the big opening, the Muppets collaborated with OK Go on their newest theme song, Miss Piggy released a makeup line and, now, nail polish manufacturer OPI offers a holiday collection of 12 colors inspired by the iconic show. Yes, Muppet maniacs can tint their tips and toes with colors like "Gone Gonzo" and "Animal-istic.

All that glitters isn't gold, and apparently the folks in town handling the wrangling ofConan O'Brien's props know it. Roxana Uskali, a 29-year-old from Roscoe Village, said she got a call Wednesday morning from the late-night host's people, inquiring about large silver coins. The manager of the foreign coins department at Harlan J. Berk Ltd. - a coin and antiquity gallery at 31 N. Clark St. - said she had some in stock. Shortly after, two men wearing Conan "All Access" badges came in and bought a 6-ounce, $190 replica of a US silver eagle dollar.

Nicole Boudreau stares intently into the camera, lip-synching along with a booming recording of herself as the name of her band glitters in bright lights behind her. This music video for the Royalty's addictive song “Bartender” isn't happening on some Hollywood sound stage, though. It's to the right of the bar inside the Blue Line Lounge and Grill, just under the Damen blue line stop. The spot's retro vibe matches perfectly with the soul-influenced rockers, who may not be unknown much longer thanks to being tagged as an MTV Buzzworthy artist.

Even when they're well executed, and they usually are, movies like "Winter's Bone" and "Mud" and "Out of the Furnace" and now "Joe" all exist in comparable, dangerous worlds. Kids grow up fast and both booze and angry dogs frequently factor into a violent community that spends little time worrying what the law thinks of any sort of behavior. In its own, rugged landscape, though, each film carves itself into the tree.

If you're any kind of hip hop fan and want to get seriously lost down a rabbit hole, I recommend Matt Daniels' interactive chart, "The Largest Vocabulary in Hip-Hop. " Daniels compiled thousands of data sets on the unique words used by hip hop artists, Shakespeare and Herman Melville in "Moby Dick.
