We're still holding our breath for "Gangster's Paradise. "  On the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Monday, the late night host debuted another single from an unlikely rapper - NBC Nightly News host Brian Williams. After garnering more than 8 million views of his rendition of "Rappers Delight," Fallon's team spliced together footage of Williams to create a spot-on cover of Snoop Dog's "Gin and Juice. "  Props to the video editor on this one. It's got to take a sharp ear to pick out audio that makes Williams sound like he's belting out lyrics that include "hoes,"...

CH Distillery 564 W. Randolph St. 312-707-8780 Rating: 3.5 (out of 4) Heating up Chicago drinkers have come around to some intensely flavored liquors over the past few years, embracing anything barrel-aged and falling under the spell of bitter spirits like amaros and even malort. So how is it that vodka, a comparatively easy-drinking and relatively tasteless liquor, has fallen out of vogue on cocktail menus and bar shelves? "Vodka has been looked down on by some mixologists, but we're really celebrating it here," said Tremaine Atkinson, one of the partners behind just-opened CH Distillery...

You've finally unpacked the last plastic tub and are fully moved in to your new place. This calls for a drink, yes? Stocking your home bar is probably the most enjoyable move-in task, but keep in mind that Rome wasn't built in a day. I've been living in my current apartment for a year and half, and I'm still adding bottles to my bar cart. You don't need to drop hundreds of dollars at once to create a home bar - just know what you like. Below are guidelines for creating a well-rounded, serviceable bar, but tailor it to your tastes: more wine, a range of whiskeys, a few types of gin … or all of the above.

Cook, waiter, entertainer-if you've ever hosted a party before, you know how many roles a host or hostess must play. One way to free up your time is by setting up a do-it-yourself (or DIY) bar. Lay out the spirits, mixers and utensils (including a jigger) your guests will need to make drinks. Your invitees will have fun playing bartender, and it will free you up to boogie down. Spirits and Sodas Tequila, gin, vodka, whiskey and rum all can be mixed with soda to make crowd-pleasing cocktails.

As colonial kitchen tricks such as pickling and canning come back into vogue, it's no wonder preserved fruits and veggies have hit the cocktail world. Exhibit A is this year's drink of spring: the shrub. No, it's not an herb or a leafy plant; it's a vinegar-based ingredient that more bartenders are making in-house and pairing with diverse spirits from gin to shochu to bourbon. "Shrubs were used back in the day when fruits and vegetables were much more seasonal than they are now," said Paul McGee, head bartender at RPM Italian , Bub City and forthcoming tiki bar...

This Sunday the longest-running storyline in the WWE this year will come to an end. That will happen when John Cena faces off against "The People's Champion" Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the main event at WrestleMania 28! The feud was kicked off at the conclusion of last year's WM and has been built up for a whole year. Fans are divided as to who will come out on top, but what can't be disputed is that with this clash of eras, the match is going to be one for the ages. (My money is on Cena scoring the win. That's my gut feeling.

Chances are you've been to the not-quite-Bucktown/not-quite-Lincoln Park industrial corridor along the Chicago River at least once.  And unless you've spent some time at out-of-the-way music venue The Hideout, loitering around the Morton Salt plant or working for the public sanitation department, you most likely haven't lingered here. But thanks to two new bars -- Ada Street from the owners of Lakeview's DMK Burger Bar and Fish Bar as well as Estate Ultra Bar from a set of first-time bar owners -- you might be getting lost in these parts more often.

Eggnog is lucky that fruitcake exists, otherwise it certainly would be the butt of more holiday jokes. Cartons of the thick, overly sugary stuff have convinced many people that eggs belong nowhere near their cocktails--and that's too bad. Plenty of the city's top bartenders are reaching for eggs this winter to add texture and balance to spiced and cold weather-appropriate drinks. Once shaken (this is where the term "vigorously" really applies), the eggs become light, frothy and just the right complement to spirits of all sorts.

When Tremaine Atkinson and his partners open CH Distillery in the West Loop this summer, he knows some skeptics will turn up their noses at a vodka-focused distillery. While bourbon and gin have recently gained popularity, bartenders anecdotally acknowledge a bit of a vodka backlash. "I think they're missing out," Atkinson said of consumers who categorically ignore vodka. "I have nothing against the other spirits, but what's cool about vodka is that it gives you a way to really let very fresh ingredients shine.

There's no longer only one malort in town. R. Franklin's Original Recipe Malort , which was developed by The Violet Hour beverage director Robbie Haynes and borrows his middle name, now is available at bars and shops across the city. The bitter liquor, which previously was available only at the Wicker Park cocktail lounge, is bottled by Chicago-based Letherbee Distillers. "I think it's sweeter, it's more bitter and more grapefruity [than other malorts]," said Letherbee's distiller Brent Engel.
