When President Obama made history as the first American president to publicly support gay marriage May 9, founder and senior planner at Liven It Up events Anthony Navarro of Lakeview knew he needed to create a platform for his wedding industry peers to share their acceptance and belief in marriage equality as professionals attached so directly to the debate. "We are the ones making weddings happen all the time," Navarro said. "People in the wedding industry need, or should, be the ones who proclaim, 'Hey!

Oh, it's on, Hawks fans! Mayor Rahm Emanuel placed a friendly bet with Mayor Chris Coleman of St. Paul, Minn., on the Hawks vs. Wild series that starts Friday. "In the unlikely case that things don't go our way, I am prepared to send a six-pack of our hoppy pride and joy: Half Acre Daisy Cutter, a barrel of Chicago's own Garrett's Popcorn, and some of our Chicago-style Giardiniera that can spice up any casserole," Mayor Emanuel said in a news release. Character, not characters. I see the Bears stunned no one and went with Phil Emery as their new general manager. Oh, I can see why. Look at these stunning credentials: Character. Hardworking. Honesty. Integrity. Hardworking. Character. Yeah, OK. I'm really sick of that guy. Sound familiar? Here are others who had those traits: Dave Wannstedt, Dick Jauron, Mark Hatley, Jerry Angelo, Jack Pardee, Neill Armstrong, Abe Gibron and Jim Dooley. Dule Hill sounded a little bit like his always-hungry character Gus on USA Network's "Psych" when he came to Chicago this week. The actor ate a pineapple and Canadian bacon pizza at Giordano's on Thursday and planned to go to Lou Malnati's for more pizza Friday. "Why not?" he said. "I'm in Chicago. " (Update: I see from his Twitter feed he made it to Lou Malnati's.) Hill is in town to promote USA's third annual Characters Unite Month, which builds on its ongoing public service commitment to combat prejudice and discrimination.

*1/2 (out of four) Perhaps the sight of Bella - er, Kristen Stewart - in the buff will attract people to “On the Road.” Or they'll flock to it merely because they're curious to see how Jack Kerouac's self-indulgent 1957 novel translates to the screen. Answer: It can't, and it doesn't. Sure, the “Motorcycle Diaries” pair of director Walter Salles and writer Jose Rivera gets the story going faster than Kerouac. Then they take it nowhere. Sal (Sam Riley) immediately admires Dean (Garrett Hedlund)
