RedEye's own Ernest Wilkins faces off with Chicago Fire and U.S. national team goalkeeper Sean Johnson in a penalty kick showdown Wednesday. Fire striker Chris Rolfe had this advice for Ernest: "I would say, give it all you've got, kick it as hard as you can, and keep it low. " Check back on Friday to see how Ernest did. In the meantime, enjoy watching Johnson make one circus save after another against San Jose last season. Want more? Discuss this article and others on RedEye Sports' Facebook page .

There exists a place in this great country of ours named Boomland. No, seriously. That's the name.   Things like this are sold at Boomland. You should get to one as fast as pos sible. Welcome to the RE-mix! This blog is the love child of RedEye and Metormix Chicago and our mission here is a little different than you're probably used to. In addition to spotlighting events and promotions we do with sponsors, expect fun content dealing with music, nightlife, and cool things we come across. Who's your host? Thanks for asking! How kind of you. It's Ernest Wilkins. He's our man about town and will be the main person you hear from. His main goal is to bring you the awesome, so much in fact that he's starting to be known around town as "Chicago's Wingman".

When news breaks, the RedEye sports staff has its opinions - serious and not-so-serious. Here are their thoughts on the Penn State sanctions.   Julie DiCaro @juliedicaro I honestly cannot recall this amount of concern over "student- athletes" and a negative impact on other schools when anyone else got sanctioned. (cough, USC, cough).   Jimmy Greenfield @jcgreenx I barely stomach college football but I'm watching Penn State play next season.

It would be very easy to hear about a band named Diarrhea Planet and want to ignore them completely. No one with the terrible judgment to call a band that can have the good judgment to make music worth hearing. Of course, you know all that business about judging and book covers. Diarrhea Planet is actually pretty good, as are these other questionably named groups that come to mind. Art Brut Does it rhyme with “butt,” or do you pronounce it like the wack cologne from the '80s?

No beer style inspires the level of heated debate that pumpkin beers do. RedEye's own Kate Bernot and Ernest Wilkins weigh in on the great pumpkin beer debate, though this one may have to be settled with a good old-fashioned arm-wrestling match. GREAT Call me a relativist, but I believe there are no inherently bad beer styles. (I am giving gruit beers the side eye, though.) Yes, there are a few overly spiced, sugar sweet and mapley pumpkin beers out there that are made with exactly zero percent actual pumpkin, but those don't render the...

Welcome, music nerds. Once a year, Austin, Texas, turns into a hipster Mardi Gras paradise for nearly an entire week during the music portion of SXSW. This year, RedEye made the 20-plus-hour road trip to check it out. Here are a few things we noticed along the way. TUESDAY 3/13 11:00 a.m. Everyone at  SXSW  looks like they're in a band. Everyone.   --Ernest Wilkins The first celebrity sighting of the trip? MTV VJ (they still have those, yeah?) Damien Fahey.

Each week before the Bears game, RedEye's sports crew gets to the point. Here's what they see happening against Detroit.
