'Tis the season when my Pinterest board fills up with ridiculously overpriced glittery white dresses, "rural" chic reception décor and, of course, obnoxiously oversized diamond engagement rings. It's engagement season in a digital age; here, you don't have to subtly hint to your boyfriend that it's time to tie the knot, you can just direct him to your "wedding bling" page. Ah, #romance. Part of me gets it. Wedding culture, from Cinderella to Bridezilla, has indoctrinated generations of ladies.

It seems like only a couple of weeks ago we were watching Nicole "Snooki" Polizzifishing on an inflatable boat and trying to harass Vinny Guadagnino into doing shots with her at Karma. Oh wait, that's EXACTLY what was happening on "Jersey Shore. " My, how the times have changed. After a week of wildly swirling rumors reported by everyone but Us Weekly, Snooki's pregnancy and engagement to babydaddy Jionni LaValle were confirmed by Us Weekly. We immediately grabbed our office Magic 8 Ball to answer our most pressing questions.

*** (out of four) Fear not, fans of Jason Segel's proudly non-muscular flesh. His full-frontal scene may have been cut from “The Five-Year Engagement,” but a few shots of his backside remain. Eat your heart out, Clooney. As in the other romantic comedy he wrote, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” Segel (who penned “Engagement” with director Nicholas Stoller) fills the movie with vulnerability that's hard not to love. He's cinema's leading everyman, who can instill goofy, unselfconscious poise to a man dressed as “Super...

In the biggest "seriously guys, come on!" of the week, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler confirmed Wednesday that their wedding dreams are back on. These two haven't quite reached Kim Kardashian/Kris Humphries level, but we've almost reached our eye-rolling capacity for the year. If we're gonna be OK with pretending like that whole first engagement thing never happened, Kristin and Jay have got some 'splainin' to do. Call it our reality-checklist of demands, if you will. damoran@tribune.com | @redeyedana  -- Does she get...

When the wedding is called off, what happens to that shiny ring? We asked Jamie Miles, editor of theknot.com. 1. If the engagement ring is a gift from the groom and the bride calls it off, the bride should give back the ring. If the groom calls off the wedding, the bride could choose to give the ring back, keep it or sell it. 2. If the ring is a family heirloom, the ring should be returned to the family. 3. If the couple purchased the ring together, they should decide what they want to do with it. L.V. @lvivanco   Want more?

Life is hard, man. Besides the daily struggles with paying those student loan s, waking up on time for work and always missing that Red Line train by just a few seconds, we counterintuitively struggle with Internet and social media dependency while constantly side-eyeing each other over passive aggressive Facebook statuses and mixed message tweets. Is anything real these days?! Sigh. OK, it's not that bad. But it's definitely annoying. Social media allows us to let our freak flags fly 24/7, but it also gives us free reign to fake...

Terran Thomas bumped into Nekia Austin during a fire drill. Fast-forward 13 years - 10 of those spent dating and three engaged - and the Curie High School sweethearts still are not married. Life just sort of happened. A month after the proposal on Valentine's Day 2009, the couple found out they were expecting their second child. And Austin, 28, wanted to get her graduate degree in social work. "We kind of put things on hold," said Thomas, 29, a salesman. Today, the couple live in Homan Square with daughters Kyla, 10, and Kelsi, 2. Count them among...

Two weeks ago, I went to a friend's dinner party on North Avenue and ended up spending the evening socializing with a particularly pretty gal pal of his. When the conversation shifted to her recent engagement, the 23-year-old bride-to-be was absolutely glowing as she recalled the details of how her guy had proposed. Maybe it's because I am a recording artist (or maybe I am just a closet commitment-phobe), but being tied down right now seems like a fate worse than death. However, even I had to swoon when she showed us her super pretty, totally modern-looking...
