Can we be honest with each other? I've been hitting it a little hard recently. From heavy "celebration" on Halloween to eating things covered in cheese, gravy or barbecue sauce (or all three, on special occasions), my body hasn't been feeling the way it should. It's one thing to cut back on beer and eat a ton of salad, but I don't believe in moderation. So I decided to try a cleanse - you know, one of those programs that's supposed to purge all of the nasty stuff from your system and leave you feeling healthier and more energetic.

Ask Tom Riley what he enjoys most about playing a young Leonardo da Vinci in "Da Vinci's Demons" and he doesn't say the sword-fighting or the inventions or the romance - but his answer includes all those things. "Oh man, the unexpected, the not knowing what's next. I would say reading the script for the next episode and thinking, 'Holy shit, we're doing that?'" the British actor said during a recent phone interview, adding this about the 15th century inventor/artist/free thinker: "I just kind of love his unpredictability.

Starz has shared the first photos from and a trailer for the upcoming second season of its adventure series "Da Vinci's Demons," which will air in Spring 2014. And yes, Leonardo still hasn't buttoned up his shirt front. The series, from David S. Goyer, follows the "untold" (er, fictional--but fun) adventures of Leonardo da Vinci as he was becoming the elder inventor, scientist, painter and innovator - the Renaissance man - people recognize him as historically. Tom Riley plays Leonardo.

Starz has released its first trailer for the David S. Goyer created historical drama "Da Vinci's Demons. " Goyer, who wrote "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight" and "Man of Steel," takes great liberties with the history of artist and inventor Leonardo Da Vinci, but it looks like a great time. It should help relieve the sadness fans of the network's "Spartacus" may feel when that show ends its run next spring. "Da Vinci's Demons" will debut after "Spartacus" ends. Brit Tom Riley ("Monroe," "I Want Candy")

Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer--the true archetype of a Renaissance man. In the key art for its new drama, "Da Vinci's Demons," Starz has chosen to highlight the "inventor" aspect of the great genius by placing his image in front of a sketch of one of his many inventions, the flying machine. The machine features prominently and rather spectacularly early on in the series.

David S. Goyer's historical fantasy series "Da Vinci's Demons" will premiere April 12, Starz announced over the weekend at the Television Critics Association in Pasadena, where the cable network showed the new series trailer below. Goyer, who wrote or co-wrote series and movies about such superheroes as Batman, Superman, Blade and Ghost Rider, is bringing that graphic novel style to this story about a young Leonardo da Vinci. As the trailer shows, "Da Vinci's Demons" the Renaissance artist/inventor/engineer is a tortured, thrill-seeking...

Leonardo da Vinci doesn't just battle his inner devils in the latest episode of "Da Vinci's Demons. " He takes on Vlad the Impaler. Yes, that Vlad - Dracula. No wonder the episode, debuting at 8 p.m. CT May 17 on Starz, is called "The Devil. " The Turk (Alexander Siddig) visits Leo (Tom Riley) to offer a clue about the Book of Leaves. Leo is inspired - or tricked of drugged or something - into rounding up Zoroaster (Gregg Chillin) and Nico (Eros Vlahos) and heading to Wallachia, where they encounter Vlad Dracula in all his morose glory.

Lara Pulver wowed Americans a year ago when, as Irene Adler in "Sherlock" on PBS, she walked into our living rooms wearing nothing but a pair of Louboutin heels and a don't-[bleep]-with-me attitude. The whip-cracking dominatrix Irene knew who she was and what she wanted. She was just fine with parading buck naked in front of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to get it. Although we don't see that much of the 32-year-old British actress in Starz' "Da Vinci's Demons," her character is just as strong--if not as brazen.

The Renaissance rascal Zoroaster begins his "little pet project"--corrupting Leonardo Da Vinci's young apprentice, Nico--in the second episode of "Da Vinci's Demons. " "The Serpent," airing at 8 p.m. CT April 19 on Starz, opens with Zo (Gregg Chillin) taking Nico (Eros Vlahos) with him on a grave-robbing quest. Leonardo (Tom Riley) has asked them to go, but according to Chillin, Zoroaster is happy to oblige and show Nico some of his tricks. "He kind of takes Nico under his wing," Chillin told me. Leonardo da Vinci was an inventor, artist, polymath, visionary and free thinker--a genius who is the very definition of the term Renaissance Man. Viewers of "Da Vinci's Demons" ( 9 p.m. April 12, Starz; 3.5 stars out of 4 ) also will have to be free thinkers to enjoy Starz's unapologetically entertaining new drama from the Dark Knight Trilogy writer David S. Goyer. This is not Da Vinci we know from history classes as the elderly, bearded painter of such masterpieces as "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper.

Americans may know Lara Pulver best for her role as fairy Claudine Crane in HBO's "True Blood," or perhaps as Irene Adler in "Sherlock" on PBS.
