Seven homicides were recorded Nov. 5, making it the deadliest day of the year so far, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. At 2:10 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot to death in the 1300 block of South Troy Street in North Lawndale, officials said. About an hour-and-a-half later, a 19-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1100 block of North Ashland Avenue in West Town, according to police. At about noon, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in the 300 block of North Pine Avenue in Austin, police said.

Austin, Chicago Lawn and West Englewood each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Chicago Lawn, a 22-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were shot to death Tuesday in the 5900 block of South Francisco Avenue, police said. In Austin, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday in the 100 block of North Pine Avenue, police said. One day earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot to death in the 500 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue, according to officials.

Chicago on Sunday recorded four homicides--the highest one-day total since January, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. According to police: At 3:30 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot to death in the 2800 block of East 76th Street in South Shore. Later that morning, an 82-year-old woman was found beaten to death in the 7800 block of Euclid Avenue in South Shore. At 4 p.m., a 21-year-old was fatally shot in the 6500 block of South Green Street in Englewood.

Bridgeport, Englewood and West Garfield Park each saw two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found. In Bridgeport, two men were shot to death Saturday in the 500 block of West Pershing Road, police said. Bridgeport has logged two homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded four homicides last year, according to RedEye data. In Englewood, a 38-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday in the 7000 block of South Carpenter Street, police said.

Summer came early to Chicago - or rather, the high violence numbers that typically occur during the summer arrived early this year. Homicides are up 44 percent from January through May compared with the same period last year, based on a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data. Chicago recorded 208 homicides in the first five months of the year, versus the 144 homicides the city logged during the same time last year, RedEye data found. Shooting fatalities were up nearly 47 percent while homicides by stabbing nearly doubled compared with last year.
