Dave Bolland admits to being a cheater - though not the kind who gets suspended. "I think sometimes I might gamble too much [and] it may come back and bite me," the Blackhawks center said of his approach to penalty killing. "But I think … you've got to cheat sometimes to get those breaks. You might get scored on and something [bad] may happen, but if you do cheat you might get that goal. " Although Bolland lacks blazing speed - "He's hard to lose; he's not moving very fast," teammate Jonathan Toews said, laughing - he is a threat to turn a penalty kill into a breakaway.

Where are the Blackhawks' stars? In Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Hawks grabbed a win with goals from four unlikely sources: Brandon Saad, Johnny Oduya, Andrew Shaw and Dave Bolland. Since then, the offense has been hauntingly quiet, especially the likes of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa. Without contributions from their most potent offensive weapons, it's unlikely Hawks will trump Boston, whose best players have been fantastic this series. Getting Hossa back for Wednesday's Game 4 after an injury sidelined him in Game 3 on Monday was only a good first step for the Hawks.

On the ice, Dave Bolland uses words to knock opponents off balance. RedEye threw a few words at the Blackhawks center and asked him to fire back.   Red Wings … "suck. " Sedin brothers … [Scoffs.] "Sisters. " Chelsea Dagger … "Scottish. " Luongo … "Nose. He has a big nose. " Lockout … "Not good. " Toronto … "Home. " "Happy Gilmore" … "Funny. " Shootout … "Fun. " "Star Spangled Banner" … "Jim Cornelison. " "Oh Canada" … "Great song.

When Andrew Shaw scored to mercifully end Game 1 in the third overtime Wednesday at the United Center--giving the Blackhawks a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins--NBC captured some of the best celebration audio you'll ever hear. "Bollie! I love you!" Shaw, who was amazingly mic'd up , screamed at Dave Bolland in the scrum, followed by the amazing line: "I love shin pads!" You probably can guess who had the assist, and which part of Shaw's body the puck caromed off. In the spirit of showing some love (and a little hate)

Summer's officially under way, so of course we're thinking … hockey? Well, yes, considering the Cubs and White Sox have bored us to death much of the season and the Bears don't start training camp for another month. So it's the perfect time to break down the Blackhawks' 2012-13 schedule, which was released Thursday. Here are dates that stand out.   Oct. 20 vs. Detroit The season kicks off Oct. 13, but we'll understand if you hit the snooze button until this collision with the archrival Red Wings.

It's time to have some fun, Chicago. Andy by fun I mean the Stanley Cup Playoffs. There's nothing like them in sports. The intensity. The drama. The payoff when they're all over. It makes the fur on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it. This year the Blackhawks have to go through Phoenix for a chance to lift Lord Stanley's Cup in the name of Chicago. The series begins Thursday in Glendale. That's a city in Arizona. Why they aren't called the Glendale Coyotoes, I can't answer.

The Hawks are set on relishing this run toward the Stanley Cup. Of course, winning the Cup in 2010 was, in a word, epic for Chicago. "The last time we won it we had the best summer," captain Jonathan Toews said. "There was so much going on that we were in a way relieved to get away from it and get back to training camp. " That summer, players became sought-after celebrities with fans following them to bars where the team celebrated, snapping photos and tracking the Cup on Twitter.

There's no better way to get pumped for the Blackhawks' playoff run than to share the experience with fellow hockey lovers at a sports bar. You can stake out some space at a bar that's been catering to hockey for nearly a decade or more - we've dubbed them The Old Guard here - or try out a newer hangout that's opened within the last five years. Some bars are official partners of the team , offering specials on designated drinks and hosting big parties during away games. Others attract fans with perks such as massive TVs and free shuttles to...

It's been a long time since we've had a chance to write about a Bulls-Blackhawks double-bill in the pages of RedEye. Too long. The NBA lockout robbed Chicago of many doubleheaders this fall, but that's about to change real fast. The condensed, 66-game NBA season means the Bulls will be playing four to five times a week, while the Blackhawks will see their usual three to four games a week. Now'd be a good time to invest in a TV with picture-in-picture technology or, heck, just another TV altogether.
