Apparently the programmers at Fox think American viewers are still buzzing in a tryptophan-fueled, post-Thanksgiving feast euphoria. What other reason do they have to subject us to “I Hate My Teenage Daughter” ( 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Fox; 1 star ) so late in the Fall TV season? Oh yeah, because they wanted to bury this turkey for as long as they possibly could. Sad to say, another round of Black Friday madness would deliver more laughs than this brainless new sitcom. Jaime Pressly and Katie Finneran are wasted as single moms and besties who are each raising a...

Nearly 70 years after her father broke baseball's color barrier, Jackie Robinson's daughter Sharon recently got a stark reminder that society hasn't come as far as it might think. "Two weeks ago, my father's statue with Pee Wee Reese in Brooklyn [was defaced] where they wrote racist and anti-Semitic marks on the statue, so the amount of hate in this country is scary," she said. "We have a long way to go. " With some of the biggest names in baseball history assembled at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile for the Beacon Awards Luncheon before the annual Civil Rights Game...

Considering that she started as a character in a line of greeting cards, Strawberry Shortcake really has endured. *** (out of four) “The Muppets” star/co-writer Jason Segel sees nothing wrong with adults loving to entertain children of all ages with puppets. Neither does Kevin Clash, who grew up admiring Jim Henson and later befriended the entertainment innovator as Clash worked on “Labyrinth” and “Sesame Street” and, through his voice and puppetry, turned Elmo into the superstar he is today. This 73-minute documentary by Constance Marks and Philip Shane traces Clash's life from his...

A new video of the Washington, Illinois tornado gives a fresh look at just how destructive Sunday's storms were.  The video, uploaded to YouTube yesterday by user Marc Wells, notes he and his oldest daughter were unharmed. Their home, however, took a direct hit, and the camera rolls as he and his daughter take cover. The video also shows the moment he emerges from cover to see the damage the EF-4 tornado created. Information on donations for tornado victims can be found here.  (NOTE: The video contains strong language.)

**1/2 (out of four) In an indie film about a single mom struggling to make ends meet, you can pretty much assume that at some point she'll lose money and spend time in a strip club. It's just par for the course. “About Sunny,” however, discovers revealing ambiguities in typical material. Divorced Vegas mom Angela (Lauren Ambrose of “Six Feet Under”) says she gets drinks at a strip club just because it's near her house, but it seems like she's there to reassure herself that, having not given in to dancing, she still...

As The National's Matt Berninger hit his stride in “I Need My Girl,” guitarist Aaron Dessner glanced to his right on stage. His young daughter, just south of two feet tall and wearing a pair of large, sound-dampening earmuffs, was drawing the only spontaneous applause during the band's intimate, 40-minute set. She was dancing. At River North bar Untitled, a rare place to see a major touring act, a crowd of no more than 125 attended the private show that preceded The National's headlining appearance at the Chicago Theatre Wednesday night, the group's second of four appearances there this week.
