The setup: The Daily Beast recently listed the country's best cities to find a date in 2012 - and Chicago didn't make the Top 25. (Atlanta was No. 1.) As we plunge into the new year, RedEye's staff debated Chicago's merits as a place to land boyfriends and girlfriends. Where do you stand? Leave a comment in the section below and you may see it show up in print! YES 1. You can walk down the street after the bars close while eating a piece of pizza and get asked out on a date by a stranger.

Dear Anna, My BFFs at my book club have been reading “Fifty Shades of Grey.” In between gulps of Yellowtail chardonnay, and prompted by your recent column about butt play for everyone, one of us blurted out: “I wonder which number is greater: the guys whom we've gone to bed with on our first date, or the guys who have done us up the butt?” The non-scientific study of my BFFs showed the numbers to be near equivalent, but that may not be a representative sample. When we tried to Google the information, we received an error message.

Those familiar with the "Jersey Shore" lingo (and don't act like you're not!) know the fellas are always trying to find ladies who are DTF. Me? Not so much. This spring, I'm just trying to find ladies who are DTR. As in, down to ride. As in, public transportation. With gas prices getting higher than Snoop Dogg, even simple A to B driving is starting to have a noticeable effect on my wallet. No need to go to the strip club these days - people are making it rain at the gas station just to get to work and back.

Tinder, the mobile dating app that brings unlimited booty call possibilities to your phone, has done wonders for the world of hookups. It's the ultimate in immediate gratification - swipe right to attempt to connect; swipe left to reject - designed to keep singles coming back to the candy store for more. It's efficient, it's fun and - since you have control over who can message you and Tinder accounts are connected to users' Facebook pages - it's relatively safe. So what could possibly go wrong?

Unless you happen to be very, very on top of things, you probably won't catch a glimpse of Matt Damon this week. The "We Bought a Zoo" star will read selections from John Steinbeck at the Metro on Tuesday as part of The People Speak, Live! alongside dramatic readings and songs from Chicagoans. Tickets to the night of Damon sold out in a flash, but here's who we think you might find in the audience. damoran@tribune.com | @redeyedana 50 percent -- Swooning housewives. When it comes to first dates, the go-to option is generally dinner and a movie. Mention this to foreplay expert/professional playboy Spencer Burnett and he'll react as though you just insulted his mother. "Worst (freaking) date of all time," he said. "With dinner, you're in a stagnant place face to face. It's awkward, it's presumptuous, it's boring and if it doesn't go well, you're stuck there for an hour-and-a-half. A movie is so non-social. Let's sit in a room for two hours and not talk to each other like we're married people or we're buddies.

An event promoted as the "Occupy Festival" has been postponed as several details of the event are reworked, organizers announced Tuesday. Organizers said in a press release that "sharp criticism" forced changes to the music fest, such as reducing ticket prices from the originally planned $55 for a two-day pass, changing the festival's name and possibly swapping the Union Park venue for an indoor one. "We are not trying to brand Occupy or...

ABC News reports: A suburban Chicago police officer used a $132 speeding ticket he issued to track down a woman and ask her for a date, saying the least he could do for costing her so much money was to buy her dinner, a lawsuit filed by the woman alleges. Get the full story at ABCNews.go.com .

The founders of a Chicago-based online matchmaking service say the art of courtship has evolved as technology has become more pervasive in our lives--and that's not necessarily a good thing. "We think things have went a little bit too far with Facebook, with online dating where you're just interacting with your computer," said Sarah Press, CEO and co-founder of Project Fixup. "We wanted to create a fun way to bring single people together to meet in person at a fun bar and have a conversation and see if they hit it off. " Project Fixup aims to bring together compatible singles that...

The setup: It's summer. Money is tight. Time to get creative on the dating scene. We asked our columnists: Would you go on a bike date? YES This is summertime in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Taking a long bike ride along the lake is just common sense. Exploring the nooks and crannies of the different neighborhoods that make the city great is a good way to get to know someone and learn something new in the process. Plus, with all of the money you've saved on gas, parking and the inevitable car wash you went through to...

Compare the dating scene a decade ago to today's vibe and you couldn't have two more opposite entities. Texting, sexting, Facebook messaging, Tinder using, Snapchatting … the list goes on and on. Enter Aziz Ansari, a South Carolina-born comic who can not only riff on the subject, but draw from personal moments that prove "we're all dealing with the same nonsense," he said. Ansari, 31, best known for his role as Tom Haverford on NBC's "Parks and Recreation," is in the midst of his "Modern Romance" comedy tour, which lands in Chicago for four shows (7 p.m. and 10 p.m....

All the Heughligans and "Outlander" finally have their datebooks marked: Starz has announced its adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's book series will premiere 8 p.m. CT Aug. 9. In the story, WW II combat nurse Claire Randall gets swept back to 1743 Scotland, where she meets hunky Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser. She misses her 1945 hubby, Frank Randall, but like I said, Jamie's a hunk. What's a lady to do? Adapted by Ronald D. Moore of "Battlestar Galactica" fame, the 16-episode "Outlander" series stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire and Sam Heughan as...

For the third year in a row, the Hideout in Noble Square will partner with the Onion's The A.V. Club to produce a music festival. This year the fest will take place Sept. 5-6. It usually brings the best acts in folk, indie rock and whatever the hell it is the Archers of Loaf do (they played the fest in 2011). After lineups that featured the likes of Neko Case, Mavis Staples, The Hold Steady and Young The Giant, anticipation for this year's lineup will likely reach fever pitch just before it is announced May 28. What's worse than a bad first date? A great first date that doesn't go anywhere afterward. You know, the date that ends with a kiss and an "I'll call you tomorrow!" The date that you told your friends was amazing, then you never heard from him again. Yeah, that one ... the one where you got ghosted. The word refers to the act of leaving without saying goodbye and usually is reserved for parties or events - when it might be completely appropriate to bail on friends - but now is being adapted into dating vernacular.

I'm set to meet someone this week I met via OKCupid (one of the few times I've felt inclined to actually reach out). We've exchanged some pleasantries and seem to have a very similar background. She's offered up her Facebook profile already. My concern is this: I'm very reluctant to add anyone on FB unless I've actually met them in person or have a very, very, very good connection to them. How would be a good way to say, "Let's just wait till we meet in person before we Facebook stalk each other?"

I'm 26, single and, save for an amazingly brief relationship when I was 19, have been single all of my life. I seem to have no trouble making friends, male or female, and I am known to be a very personable, intelligent person. But somehow these qualities don't seem to translate in the dating world. I've had plenty of male friends say "the guy who gets you is really lucky. " But all I can think is, "But that's not you?" The guys I've had crushes on have somehow morphed into friends who ask me for advice.

It can happen to any of us, male or female. It comes when you least expect it. But eventually, something will tip you off that things just aren't adding up. There you are, minding your business, hanging out with a buddy, and then you realize what's happening: While you thought you were just grabbing dinner with a friend or just catching a movie with a homie who happened to be in your area, you actually were being sneak-dated. (For the uninitiated, that's when a friend, trying to be more than friends, dates you without you even knowing it.)

Recently I did this crazy thing. I moved to Indiana, which, for a person whose family nickname is "Big Fancy City Girl," seemed like a rather ridiculous move. But after five years of living and loving Chicago, I was ready to go back to school, and Indiana was calling this big-city girl's name. But while I was prepared for the lack of public transportation and the slight southern drawl of southern Indiana, I was not quite ready for the drastically different dating environment. It's not that dating in a small town is worse, or better, than in a big...
